Hi, we rented points for the first week of May. We might change those plans and move it to the first week of September. Is this something the owner can do within a certain time period (30 or 60 days?) does it depend on other factors? If it can't be done, we'll keep the May reservation, but just wondering about options and the process. Thank you!!
Read your contract - some owners are willing to make changes if possible & others are not.
Even assuming your contract allows changes, it’s not always possible.
DVC points expire at different times of the year depending on the owner’s use year. If your owner’s use year is June, August, or September the points used to book your May trip will expire before Sept. 1 & it’s too late to save/extend them because of DVC’s strict banking rules.
Even if the owner’s points will not expire, DVC has different seasons & the same villa can cost more or less points depending on which season your trip is in. Holidays tend to cost more points, for example - so the villa you rented for May could cost more (or less) points in September & if it costs more points, your owner may not have enough points to make the new reservation.
Availability can be a big issue, you’re w/in 7 months of September so late in the DVC reservation game, & fall is fairly high demand for WDW, sometimes there’s no availability or the villas that are available cost more points (better view, bigger villa.) Thus, again, the owner may not have enough points to reschedule or there may be nothing to reschedule you to.
