Renting Points at BWV

We’re in the very early planning stages of an adult only trip for my DH and I. We’re planning on early November 2019 (so hopefully during food and wine) and hoping to stay in a studio at BWV for 6 or 7 nights. We’re not new to point rentals, but we’ve never stayed at BWV before!

We will be putting in our request as early as possible with David’s for the 11 month window, but how hard are those rooms to secure at that time of year? We’re also debating between splurging for the BW view or saving some money with standard, is one of those categories harder than the other to get?

They can both be hard to get due to the limited number of rooms and especially since it's a studio.

Your best bet will be BWV Preferred - neither standard or BW View. Its unlikely that standard view will be available and only slightly more likely you'll get a BW View studio. But you should be able to rent BWV Preferred view (which will likely overlook one of the two pools). BCV will be harder to get than BWV Preferred View but easier to get than BW View or BW Standard View.

I put in a request at David's just before the 11 month mark for our trip this year, arriving between Xmas and New Years. Only preferred view was available. I suppose standard might be possible if they can get an owner to log in right at 8 am at the 11 month mark. As long as you put in a request before 11 months and they have someone with the points available, I'm sure you'll get something.

First part of November is an extremely high demand time, particularly if time you want includes the Wine & Dine race weekend (Thurs to Sun), which is THE highest DVC demand weekend of the year (even SSR has a risk of filling then before 7 months out). BWV standard view studios and 2BRs typically disappear by 1 second after the 11 month window for reservations by BWV owners opens at 8 a.m. at 11 months out, boardwalk view studios and 2BRs may last a few seconds longer. Pool/garden view rooms and standard and boardwalk view 1BRs generally stay open for quite a while but likely nothing will be available at 7 months out when owners of other resorts can begin to reserve.

BCV rooms, including studios, are usually still open at that time even a week after the 11 month window opens but are usually gone by no later than 9 months out.

Thank you guys, this is all really helpful! A lot to think about before we make firm plans.

Its worthwhile to note that there are two potential issues - one is room availability - this is where you'll get hung up on BW Standard or BW View - those rooms disappear so quickly that they aren't likely to be available.

The second issue will be in finding an owner - you'll need someone with the home resort window at those resorts. Its a popular time to rent points, and there are more people looking to rent than owners renting out their points. That last quarter is a popular time for members to go, so some members prefer not to rent out points at that time of year out of courtesy for their fellow members (I'm one of them - my points are worth the same in August and are easily rentable year round, I'm not going to take that room away from a member).

Most BWV that I know rent their points directly as they can get a premium over going through a broker, so this reduces the number of available owners willing to rent their BWV at 11 months through a broker.

You have a much higher chance of getting a pool/garden view than a standard or boardwalk view.

As others have noted, it can be difficult to get a SV studio, still a challenge for a BW view studio, and likely doable to get a preferred view/pool/garden even at 11 months for early November. I booked a 4-night stay the first week of November this year right at the 11-month mark and right at the 8 am time booking opened for our desired first night. I was not able to get the first night of the four-night stay in a SV, so ended up booking all four nights in a BW view studio (we refuse to change rooms during a stay just to save a few points).

Both Epcot resorts are going to be tough to rent for early Nov.

I can understand that some renters wish to use a rental company but for an owner to rent their points through a rental company they normally do it because of the less hassle and easyness of the process. If the renter want to book a high demand resort during a very high demand time, the owner NEEDS to book right at the 8am mark. This is everything else than easy or hassle free.

Why should I get up before 8am only go get the same payment that I would get if I get up at 10am? on top of that booking a standard view costs less points meaning to rent all my points I need to make more reservations. I would be more than willing to do so if I was renting the points myself because the reward is higher.

As long as there is no incentives for owners I not seeing this happening anytime soon.

I'd recommend OP to rent directly from an owner instead.

I have to agree with this. As a BWV owner I know how quickly standard view studios go in the fall and I honestly wouldn’t want to mess around trying to book them if I was renting my points out. I’d want a sure thing (which snagging a standard view studio in the fall is anything but) and be more inclined to take requests for other times of the year (or at a minimum pool/Garden view which can easily be booked at 10-11 months vs 8 am on the dot 11 months out). I’m willing to deal with the hassle of booking standard view studios to save myself some points (moving dates a few days/logging on multiple days in a row to snag one/waitlisting) but not to rent my points. It’s too easy to rent them other times of the year or by taking pool/Garden requests instead.

It’s definitely something to think about. I’m not sure how comfortable we are going directly through a member vs a broker, but we do have a lot of time to research and think about it. Is the rent/trade board here the best way to connect with private members in your POV as a member?

And the absolute worst case scenario, we don’t get an Epcot area DVC room and we’re forced to branch out and try something new!

The R/T Board is the only way that you should connect with an owner on the disboards. Anyone who initiates contact with you via PM to get around the posting rules could be a scammer.

I know on here, sorry I should have worded that differently.

Is the rent trade board in general the best way to go about private rentals, or is there a place off the disboards that’s better?

I don't that this website is any safer, nor is it worse, than any other website that permits owners to post rental availability. You have to do your due diligence when it comes to renting DVC. And there is a huge amount of faith that both the renter and the owner take when they enter such an agreement. Not everyone is comfortable with the level of trust that it requires and that is why the rental agencies are so successful.
