Renting points and travel insurance

We are thinking of renting points and getting a villa. How do I get travel insurance from?

The owner would have to do the Travel Insurance for you. I am not sure if you would be covered but someone more experienced than me will tell you

If you rent through a broker, they should be able to offer you protection or refer you to an insurance company. If you rent from an individual, you'd need to find a policy that would cover the transaction. Due to the nature of an individual rental, I wouldn't expect many companies to cover the transaction.

I think both of the big rental brokers offer insurance at the time of booking and its very liberal- but its not cheap. Its a few dollars per point I think.

Actually, american express used to offer a comprehensive travel insurance policy which covered airfares, hotel rental, and any prepaid meals.. I will look it up and get back to you on it.

there is one by travelex, which runs about 5% of the insured value.. for $5000 worth of coverage, runs about 250. Not really that bad. Includes trip cancellation insurance.. but just go online and google vacation travel insurance.. and shop around.

Considering that most Disney vacations, for a family of 4, including a 5 day stay, airfare, meals, tickets etc. will run around $5000, I think it is a valuable thing to consider.

Not correct. The insurance available through Disney to owners does not cover anyone who is not in their household. Renters would get their own insurance, independently. You may need something from the owner indicating payments are not refundable.

For vacation rentals, we have found affordable plans with good coverages at www.vacationrentalinsurance.com
Their insurance provider is CSA Travel Protection which is a major US travel insurance company. If you have specific questions, I recommend you call CSA. CSA was very helpful in advising us on needed coverages.
