renting point with 2 familes and different checkout dates

This will be our first time renting points for our trip and I was wondering what to do. My Husband, daughter and myself are going to get a studio for a week(7 days) at AKL but now my mother in-law wants to come for a few days about 3. How do I book this reservation with her in it. We were going to get the Dinning Plan but if we add her then we would have to get her on the dinning plan and she does not want it nor will she be there to use it the whole time. So what should I do?

Did you tell your MIL that it would be problematic to have another person for only part of the trip? I'd probably tell her that it's not going to work and just go with your immediate family and offer to go with her on some future trip.

Does MIL want to share a room/suite with you, or get her own room? And does she understand that rented points are usually non-cancellable? Personally, I would book her a regular non-DVC room at AKL, but maybe I am projecting based on my own flaky ILs...

If she is arriving after you, add her to the reservation when you check in. Then she won't have the dining plan, and you can call and put her on the DME if she needs it.

If she's arriving the same time as you but not by air, then just put her on the reservation at the desk when you get there.

Not sure what you do if she is arriving at the same time, by air, and needs DME at the same time you might.

The studios are pretty small, especially if you book a value studio - these are somewhat smaller than the other studios at AKL.

Or just add her to the dining plan & you get to use whatever extra credits she doesn't

Since she is the 4th person in the room it won't be a big problem, the points you are renting cost the same with 3 people as they do with 4 people, so the room itself isn't costing extra. If you do the dining plan you will have to do it for 4 people for the whole week (you can't add a person for just part of the stay for dining). But I don't think that's a big problem, you will end up with some extra dining credits as the previous poster mentioned, but your family can use those so they won't go to waste.

I would have MIL book her OWN room. No way would I share a room (esp. a studio) with MIL. Everyone needs their privacy & no way would anyone have any in a situation like that.

I would not have MIL share a studio with me. 1. The sleeper sofas are not comfortable and she's not going to be happy sleeping on one. 2. Once you pull out the sleeper sofa you have no room in that room. I would never rent a studio that required the sleeper sofa to be pulled out as you have to move the coffee table somewhere and then you pratically have to crawl over the bed to use the balcony.

Have MIL get her own room for 3 nights.

Thanks everyone. I have no problem staying in the studio with my MIL, the small space or privacy doesn't concern us either. We just want her to enjoy the time with her granddaughter. We are just trying to figure out how to place her on our reservation. We figured it out though. We have never done the dinning plan and we just thought to give it a try, but it can wait till we go the month after.
