Has anyone had luck renting points lately? We usually use Dave's. Our points expire Nov. 30 of this year. I had to put too many points into RCI last year and really do not want to use that option. Thanks

david is a good company he put about 25k in my pockets the last year and a half. Of course I put a lot in his pocket also. Why not use David again?

You can rent your points right here on the DIS if you want to put in a little more work than using a broker.

Just want to caution to please be sure to report any direct messages you get as a result to this post.

If you use David’s, just be sure you read carefully his new contract as it is different than before the pandemic.

I highly recommend the DVC Rental Store as opposed to David’s. They pay $0.50 per point more, they handled the pandemic cancellations in a much more professional manner, and they post a regularly updated list of point rental opportunities. You can also set up custom alerts so you are automatically notified when rental opportunities that you specify become available.

Just sharing my experience. We finalized our vacation plans around 3 weeks ago. Gave David's our banked 19UY points (extend to this year due to covid), around 1200 points, 3 weeks ago. Then our plans changed and I decided to rent out our 20UY points as well. Roughly 2700 points total. Decided to try to do it myself here and also use David's at the same time.

My 2700-ish points were rented out here in 8 days. I have not heard from David's since the initial contact 3 weeks ago. I've used Davids from 2015 - 2020 but I don't think I will ever use them again.

Thanks so much for posting your comparison. I have banked points on two contracts that I currently have in ROFR and have been trying to figure out the best way to rent them as we have also finalized all our bookings for the next 11 months with the points we currently have.

On the flip side I have rented points from david's and from this forum and I enjoyed the forum better. Usally get a "none available" "or a success we found it" pretty quickly.

We just rented ours through The Timeshare Store. Banked 2019 points with June UY. They offered $9 per point- David's was only offering $4.50 because it was 60 days or less. We had a rental for the full 39 points within 5 days. This was the first time we have rented our points, but so far it has been easy. The reservation is in a couple weeks, and we don't get paid until after the people stay- so I guess we need to see how the payment goes. So far, no complaints, though!

If you rented out the points here, typically the payment is made in full before the reservation within 90 days. You have no recourse if your renters don’t pay you after the stay. On the other hand, you can cancel the reservation and rent to someone else if the renter refuses to pay. I’d reach out to the renter and ask them to pay immediately, per normal convention in renting points directly from owners.

I know renting out on your own can be intimidating, I’ve been there back when I stared in 2013 or so. But it really isn’t, the process is pretty straight forward. You joined in 2009 and is a reputable forum member here with a long history. I don’t think you will have trouble finding renters willing to pay you up front.

EDIT oh nevermind - I misread your message and thought you rented out your points here, but the renter won’t pay you until after the stay. You rented out through an intermediary so they already have the money, they just won’t pay you until after the stay. In that case it’s safe. Sorry for the misread!

Yes- exactly. It's being held until after the stay by the company.

I just used David's for the second time. The points I listed got snatched up quickly. I would definitely use David's again.

put a thread on this forum. you have plenty of time and should be able to get $15/pt no problem. I have been renting for years and usually get repeat customers or referrals from past renters. rarely need to put up a thread. FYI, this last year was rocky as I had to rebook 5 or 6 reservations, some repeatedly to work through the covid closures etc. luckily it all worked out and everyone was satisfied including me!

Try renting on your own, yes there is some effort involved but why put money in someone else’s pockets if you can fairly easily do the work yourself and benefit. You can find sample rental agreements here in the forums. Read through some of the postings and you can get a pretty good idea how to word yours. That’s what I did and had no trouble renting some extra points that I had. I had reached out to a number of agents and the feeling I got from them was that they already had a glut of points. Good luck whichever way you go.

Where can you find sample rental agreements? Thx
