just wondering how easy this is to do?

we are hoping to go for 3 weeks next time, and although i absolutely loved being onsite i'm not sure i want to do the one room with 2 kids for 3 weeks. We thought about staying one week onsite and 2 weeks in an offsite villa or condo, but if we could stay onsite in a DVC then that would be even better.

I do love the idea of a villa but we went for a drive around and TBH i felt the villa areas were a little isolated and also i worry about the little ones with a villa pool, and the fact that there isnt the shallow areas or any of the slides etc that you get with a resort pool.

We would want a one bed villa, as its the kitchen, lounge area and washing facilities we really need and it would be for late september/early october time in 2007, and we would probably still do a week in a normal hotel room, then move to the DVC.

Also can you get AP discounts on the DVC resorts easily, im thinking we may need to pay for some of the time and rent points for the rest. I did look on the best rate program and they were offering SS and OKW at very good rates for february?

If we do want to rent points when would we need to be starting to ask and look for someone to rent from

thanks and sorry for the long post

P.s buying into DVC ourselves is not possible at this time as we don't have that much capital and can't get finance

 No one answered yet and I'm no expert on renting points but I'll have a go.

It has been possible to get AP discounts on DVC rooms and it sounds like you have had success looking at next year - the Best Rate Program? This would mean you paying one night's non-refundable deposit up front. But who knows if this program will be around by 2007; it may have been replaced by another scheme by then ;)

You probably know that Sunday to Thursday nights are cheapest points-wise at DVC so you could look at paying for Friday and Saturday. Keep in mind that they do not guarantee you the same room, but I'm sure it's in their interest not to have to move people.

Members who own at that resort can book 11 months in advance. You could make enquiries in advance of that of course. If it were me, I'd probably ask on this forum next summer. I rented a small number of points from a UK Dis member by asking here.

The going rate seems to be $10 to $12 per point and you can find out more on the US DVC Rent/Trade board. Obviously it may be simpler if you can find a UK member to rent from.

As you are not going until 2007, this gives you time to monitor the discounts offered for AP holders next year.

Good luck with it.

:wave2: I have noticed that e-bay sells accomodation time at DVC locations. Not sure how reliable it is but it might be worth a look. Search under DVC location name.
