Hi there-
I am not sure if this is the right spot for posting this, please let me know if I should have it somewhere else. I looked in the DVC threads and it didn't seem to fit anywhere...
--Anyway--
I am thinking about trying out DVC by renting some points for my trip next year (10/2014). So I am starting to look into it now. I would need two villas- one for my mom/brother and one for my fam. Any advice for this? I don't want to get ripped off! I am looking at a website that I have been told is reputable by another DVC member...:surfweb:... Would LOVE a Boardwalk Studio...:goodvibes... I know we have to do it a year ahead, right? or 11 mos?

Also- I was wondering if you still get the magic express from the airport if you are doing that... :confused3

Any advice is appreciated!
TIA!

Hi Sphinx - there is a rent/trade/transfer board here under the DVC section (you must be logged in to see it). You can rent directly from a member there, or you can try **************** another site with member-direct rentals. Rentals from members are usually about $12 per point, give or take $1-$2. Alternatively, you can rent from David or Daddio at Dvcrequest.com he is a broker and rents points at $14 per point. I have only heard good things about his service.

If you rent points, you get the Magical Express free and can add the disney dining plan for additional cost. However, there is NO free dining deals with DVC reservations.

As far as booking, you can book 11 months in advance at the "home resort" of the points you are renting, and all DVC points can reserve at any DVC resort 7 months in advance. If you want the hardest to reserve reservations or are specific about resort, booking in the 11-7-1/2 month window is your best bet. If you are flexible, you might find less availability at 7 months, but will have more renters to choose from as anyone's points can reserve. Therefore, you might find a better deal. Most owners want top dollar for making an 11 month reservation.

Good luck!

Thats the site I was looking at! Good to hear...
I will look at the DVC board again- thanks!!!

To get Boardwalk during Food & Wine, you need to be booking at 11 months out. You should be aware that you must pay in full at time of reservation and you will most likely not be able to get your money back should you cancel.

Also, studios are not adjoining so you will not have 2 studios next to one another. You can request that they be close to one another but I haven't had much luck with that.

Have you considered renting a two-bedroom together. We did this with my parents last year. We used the DVC Rental store, and it went great! You don't have to pay it all up front with them. You also don't have to pay for a quote. They had excellent communication.

We've rented many times, sometimes it can save you a lot of money over the rack rate and even the discounted rates, but as Pakey said be aware that it requires you to book 11 months out and pay up front. That can be a big commitment if you aren't 100% sure. If you reserved 2 rooms at the BWI you would only have to put down a 1 night deposit on each room. Then you could make payments over the next year little by little instead of needing thousands of dollars up front. Just something to think about. :)

All parties involved are committed to going the week we chose- but I know anything can happen in 456 days! lol :scared1: Looking into travel insurance...

I found someone whose home resort is BWV and can book 11 mos out! She is willing to work with us based on availability if our plans should change. So, that works for me so far. Shes going to see if she can get it for us in Nov and if she can't, she can't. We just go to plan b and then plan c. lol Yes i have a plan c. ;) I am not too hung up on a resort- I have my preferences but all of DWD is nice and clean so I don't really care when it comes down to it. I'm one of those people who sees it as "As long as I'm in WDW" :cool1:

BWI is not an option for us. WAY out of our budget- I could only afford 3 nights for less than what I'd be paying for an entire week by renting points. But thank you for the suggestion. :goodvibes

Hopefully, she did not contact you via private message after you posted this thread. That is illegal on the DIS and the moderators want to know about people who do this. That is a great way to get scammed. I hope you contacted her first.

Go over to the DVC Rent/Trade Board and read the sticky threads at the top of the page over there about "renting points".

Hi there - we literally just rented DVC points (like today!) for a studio villa at Boardwalk for early next May, and our friends from Australia did the same. We used Dave's DVC point rental and paid $14 per point. We did have to pay up front, but for 8 nights it cost just over $1600, so essentially $200 per night with everything included. This is my third time doing this and it has been super. You can use the Magical Express, you can purchase the Dining Plan, and you can buy your park tickets through a discount broker. I just looked up the Boardwalk studio villa (standard) 2014 rate for the same week and it looks like we saved over 50%

We started debating this today for a March trip. Is it worth it?? That's the website we were looking to do it. Seems like it's such a great deal! We're debating Boardwalk as well! Thoughts?!?!

would rent BCV before BWV - BCV is closer to Epcot - and own at BWV already.

next year you might be able to get GFV if you are interested.

VWL or BLT if you want close to the MK

BCV or BWV if you want close to Epcot or Studios

We rented DVC points back in 2007 for the first time from someone we met here on the DISBoards. We loved it and have rented every year since then (except for one year we decided to try POP Century. Big mistake and will never stay Value again.) Renting points does take some extra work in the planning stages and prepaying large amounts up front... but the money saved is so worth it if you prefer to stay in Deluxe Accomodations.

Having said that, we were lucky enough that the first person we rented from back in 2007 has lots of points and rents them out frequently. So now when we are ready to plan our trips I contact him and it's a done deal. Over the years he has become a friend of the family and will actually save his yearly Beach Club Villas points for us because he knows it's our favorite resort. :cool1: :woohoo: Now... if I were to have to find someone new to rent from every year, I'm pretty sure we would have become DVC members ourselves. But so far our situation has worked out great so why mess with a good thing?! ;)

99 days to our 6th trip via renting DVC points! :cheer2:
