I know 100000 people have asked about this but where would I start if I wanted to rent points form someone? We have already set up to stay at CSR but I am wondeirng if its worth it to rent points and stay somewhere nicer...any suggestions?

Usually it's better to rent pts. from a member at a dvc resort. Just find out how many pts. would be needed at the dvc resort you would like to stay at and multiply it by $10 per pt. Should be able to pay that per pt. Then deside if it's worth it. Hope this helps.

Thank you! Do you know where I can find out all of that information? Like where to look?

You can find point charts on various websites, such as-
http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/DVCpoints.shtml

Decide where you want to stay and then calculated the number of points needed. I am a DVC member however I just (last week) rented most of the points we won't be using this year and next. However, if you have questions I'm happy to answer your questions.

Points typically rent for $10-$13 per point. I was able to rent most of mine for $12. You can get a better deal if a member has points that are expiring soon. If you are set on where you want to stay you may have to pay a higher rate ($12 per point) to get what you specifically want.

You can find people who have points to rent under the DVC section of this site-- the rent/transfer board.

There is a nice article about the do's and don'ts of renting points on the Mousesavers website here- http://www.mousesavers.com/dvc.html#rentpoints (the article is at the bottom of the page)

Like I said our points, for the most part, all of our points are already rented through May 2013, however if you have more questions and want to chat send me a private message. I'm happy to help.

We started out renting point before we decided to buy a DVC membership. So far, we have had good experiences renting points from others and then renting our points out. Good Luck!:)

I highly recommend renting points. :thumbsup2 Even though we haven't been on our trip!!

I booked the 1st part of our stay through the Disney site and just got the deal they're running right now. Then I checked the rental boards right here at disboards.com and found someone that had them available for the time I needed. We were able to get the room and resort we wanted, and it's reserved in our name. I've seen on here where it's sometimes reserved in the DVC members name. We got the confirmation letters from DVC ourselves. So that was reassuring.

I did pay $12 pp, a little more that was some people pay. But it was still cheaper that Disney by a long shot!!

So good luck on whatever you decide, but I'm pretty sure we'll be doing this again in the future.

Thank you so much for all the information! Does anyone know how this would affect our deposits that we already have at Disney if we decide to rent points instead of using our CSR resorvation? We would REALLY love to stay at WLV if we can find the points.

I don't really know about that. We're keeping the ones we already had made.

I found someone on Facebook and rented points for my parents to stay at OKW for 5 days at 9 dollars per point...it worked out to be less then staying at Pop Century. I am currently waiting to see if I am able to trade my RCI time share in, if I cannot then I will also be renting points instead of paying for a value resort!

Good luck!

Shoot, do they have anymore points?? lol

Does anyone know of anyone with points to rent???

********** Webpage is the name of the page for the guy I used on facebook, his name is Scott. You can always see what he can work out for you and maybe price out someone else too!

If your CSR reservation is room-only, you can cancel and get your full deposit back up to five days before check-in. If it's part of a package with tickets, you have to cancel before 45 days out.:thumbsup2

Try the website linked below. His points are slightly dearer bvut he comes highly recommended and advertises on the disboards. He will be safer than an unknown owner, and has a choice of many of the resorts (a private owner would only be able to offer the resorts they own at). His website has a calulator to calculate the amount of point you need for your stay. Good luck!!

If you want to go through a private owner, try the DVC rental board in the DVC section of the Disboards

ALL DVC rentals should be put in the renter's name because that is the name you will be checking in under. I'm very positive that DVC renting rules requires the name, address, and possibly DOB of the actual guests staying under that reservation. Regardless of who you rent through, you as the renter, cannot call DVC member services to make any changes, additions, requests, etc to the reservation - the DVC member has to do this for you.

A private owner (aka member) would be able to offer points at any of the DVC resorts 7 months or closer to your booking day. However, WLV has a very small DVC inventory so it is harder to book at the 7 month mark. If all of your nights are not available you may be able to get some nights there and keep some nights at CSR (if you're ok with changing resorts mid-trip).
DVC reservations also have the ability to be put on a waitlist if your nights are not available, however I am not sure that renters usually go this route.

I wish we knew right now if we had some extra points to rent to you, but haven't planned our vacations past this fall yet, but I am very willing to help you with your questions (either here on this thread or PM me). I've only been a DVC member for a little less than a year, but feel well versed on how the majority of things work with DVC.

Either way, good luck with all of your planning! :goodvibes

ETA: I also recommended David's service - www.dvcrequest.com on the resorts(?) thread where the OP also posted this question. Check the site out if you haven't yet. I was going to use him to rent some of my points for me, but we ended up changing one of our reservations so we could use them ourselves.

Slightly different question on the same theme......

The escape package requires the bride and groom to stay 4 nights in a Disney hotel. If the couple were to rent DVC points for at least 4 nights......does this fulfill the requirement? Or does the couple have to book through Disney?

Thanks! This board is a wealth of information.

i have questions too...

i don't want to rent a vehicle... just use disney transportation for my whole trip (except when i get the limo service for the wedding). so if i only want to stay in a dvc hotel for a few nights and then move to POR... can i get by with just disney transportation? will they let me bring my luggage on the bus? do the busses even stop at the DVCs?

also...
do i still get to stay for extra magic hours even though the dvc reservation isn't under my name? will i get a keycard to the world with a dvc? will it have my tickets on it even if i buy them seperately from my point rentals?

i am very confused. i've never even considered renting dvc points until i obsessively read all of lurkyloo's trip reports and she made it sound so awesome.

Hello,

We are doing some days at Pop Century and then will be switching to a DVC as well...

I am buying my park hoppers separately...

We are using All disney transportation, it comes with your DVC stay...Yes all the DVC places have transportation provided to the parks...You definitely get more for your money by renting DVC points! YOu can also add on the dining plan if you would like it!

I don't know for sure (please correct me if I am wrong) but I think it is 'frowned upon' to take vast amounts of luggage on the Disney buses. Of course, the Disney buses do not run from resort to resort, so you would have to change at a park, DTD or the TTC. We are moving mid-stay from BLT to POR and will just get taxis - I can't be bothered with the hassle!!

If I remember correctly from the time we stayed at three different resorts in one trip (bad idea, btw) we just gave our luggage to bell services and they transferred it over to the other resorts.

Yes, they are doing that for us as well from the Disney Cruise...and I have a lot as I am pretty much sending all our wedding stuff over to the hotel!
