Renting DVC points from UK perspective

Just wondering if any fellow UK DISers have any advice/tips for renting DVC points? I know there's a dedicated forum for this and I have had a look already but just looking for some advice from a UK perspective and to find out if there's anything I should be aware of.

Next year we already have 9 nights booked at Coronado Springs. The plan is to book 4 nights at Hard Rock before returning to Disney for one final night. I've told the other half that the final night will probably be at Pop (stayed there before), however, I'm toying with the idea of renting DVC points for one night at Animal Kingdom Lodge with Savannah View and keeping it as a surprise.

I've had a look at DVCRequest and can see I would need 17 points for the date I'm looking at which comes in at $238 on there. This compares to £307 on Disney UK so seems like a great deal. I may go down this route or I may look at renting either from here or the Dibb.

Also when should I be looking at booking? Sooner rather than later?

I'm not from the UK, but the biggest issue you will have is the cancelation policy. Most DVC rentals cannot be cancelled or changed, so you have to be 100% sure of your dates. Some private DVC owners have more flexible policies. You can find them on the DVC rent/board.

70 points seems like a wrong number for just one day. You'll want to verify that.

Yeah, I've updated it, should have been 17! Oops! Thanks for making me aware of the cancellation policy...we already have flights booked from the UK so our dates are confirmed, I guess I just better make sure that AKV is "the one" before I commit to a booking.

As you will usuallly pay in dollars you need to check the exchange on the date you book as it will paid in full up front.

For one night there is no difference but you will need to go through a person as most brokers have a minimum number of points (David's is 44 points).

If you book more than 7 months in advance you will need an AKV owner after 7 months you can use an owner with any home resort :goodvibes

Thanks, Elise. I didn't realise there was a minimum on David's website - can you point out where it says this? I hadn't seen it mentioned and was actually planning to go through him

EDIT: Nevermind have just seen the two night minimum rule :( Gutted, had decided to pretty much go for it but looks like I might need to rent privately now.

I've rented privately on both sides of the equation. it's really fine. The only bump in the road would be to find someone to do the monetary conversion but that can be easily be done via Paypal for a fee. I own at AKV because we enjoy it so much. One other thing to be aware of is that check in is 4:00 pm and check out is 11:00 am and your room may not be ready right away. Could you cut back on CSR to 8 days, shift your Hard Rock and add another day at AKV at the end so you can really enjoy the resort?

Thanks, I think I'll probably look at renting privately either on here or The Dibb. Don't really want to cut down on our CSR or HRH stay so would rather just do one night.

I'd offer to help out as I'm a DVC member from the UK but as my points are at SSR, unless you are going at a very slow time the chance of me getting an AKV studio at the 7 month window are slim to none! So you really need to rent from an AKV owner and get the reservation locked in as soon as possible after the 11 month window.

Though I will say one thing, robinb is 100% right, you'd do better to grab an extra day at least. You just can't enjoy all that AKV has to offer on a 1 night stay.

If you want a big impact from just a 1 night stay I'd go for somewhere on the monorail loop. BLT, GF or the Poly.

This is true for Value studios, Savannah view are open most of the year at 7 months. And since they're easy to get, you'll be able to rent points from anyone and probably find a rate of $13pp, so bringing down the cost to $221.
I'd suggest to get a studio in Jumbo House: it's the main building where all but one restaurants are. Getting a studio there is a bit more difficult but it's better in my opinion (expecially for a short stay).
Book your dinner there, all restaurants are great.
