Renting DVC Points + Dining Plan - Help!

So first of all, sorry if this question has been asked. I’ve been looking around trying to find the answer but can’t find anything.

So we are looking to book at AKL by renting DVC points but we also want to add a deluxe dining plan. We wanted to spread out the cost and book the room first and add the dining plan later.

Looking at DVC point rentals, they say you have to book the dining plan at the same time as the rental. BUT, they also go on to say that the reservation will be linked to your MDE profile. If that’s true, then can’t I add the dining plan once it’s linked to MDE profile? Thanks in advance for the help!

No, you cannot add the dining plan yourself. It has to be done by the owner of the DVC points who makes your reservation, and it must be paid in cash at the time it is added. You cannot make any edits or changes to a DVC points booking where you are not the points owner.

So you understand, you do not own the reservation... ever. It can be listed in your MDE but it is the owner who controls it. You can’t do anthing with it. If any changes or additions need to be made, such as Magical Express, dining plan, etc. they can only be done by the owner.

When I've rented points, I've always chosen to go through an individual (usually someone on the DVC board here!) rather than a rental company for the exact reason of spreading the cost out.

The one time I decided to utilize the plan, the owner was more than happy to three-way call into DVC with me on the line so I could give them a credit card number to pay for the dining plan when I was ready to add it.

I usually book thru David’s. I pay for the DVC rental and when I save the $ for the dining plan I call them and tell them the dining plan I want and give them a Disney gift card number that had the $ on it to cover the cost of the plan. They send that to the DVC owner and when the owner books it they e-mail me a confirmation. You don’t have to book it all at the same time with them.

I rent through David's and while I don't use the dining plan, I had up to 30 days before check in to have it added to my reservation.

I rented through DVC store and they let me put my deposit down for the rooms (like 30%) and then they have to be paid off 45 days before Im adding DDP next month to one those reservations ( I made them in Oct, they have to be paid for in Aug) next month, I already added it to one reservation a few months ago. Now you wont be able to see the DDP on the MDE tho its just a DVC thing but I got an email that was sent to the owner by DVC showing the DDP was added

Not really. It can be added any time up to 48 hours before check in. It's just up to coordinating with the owner or broker depending on what they're willing to do. For me, I'd add it for a renter any time up to a months or 2 prior.

Disney gift cards are the best way IMHO. Buy the e-giftcards online and consolidate them on the Disney gift card site (1000 max per card).

I believe @starry_solo meant that it has to be paid when you book the DDP...not the resort...which is correct.

Oh, sorry. I never call it "booking the DDP" myself so I totally missed that. So yes, when you add, book, sign up for, or select the DDP, at that point you have to pay for it.
