Since renters can now link their reservations to My Disney Experience, MDE, I was wondering, can a renter purchase their own Dining plan or does the owner still need to assist?

Can I piggy back off this question for a second? When you are buying points from someone, if you go during free dining, and say have points for Beach Club, do you qualify for the free dining despite the points? Or do you have to pay for the dining plan out of pocket? We are considering trying to get some points for 2015 and will be going during the historical "free dining" in september.:confused3

My guess is that you mean "renting a reservation". "Free" dining isn't really free, you are paying full price for a room and you have to buy park tickets. It's Disney's way of filling empty rooms.

DVC DDP is OOP.

When staying on points, you must pay for the dining plan.

Thank you. That's what I figured. I know free dining isn't "free" but it sounds nice.;)

The "Free Dining" that Disney advertises at certain times of the year is never available for any room/villa booked with DVC points.

Only the owner can add the dining plan to the reservation. So you can do this either:
- the owner set up a three way call with you and MS and you give to MS your CC number
- you give to the owner your CC number
- you pay the owner the amount needed for the DDP (plus any money transfer fee) and then he calls MS

I had a renter buy a Disney gift card for slightly over the amount needed. I gave that number to MS. This kept their cc info secure and limited their exposure.

I'd love to say I was smart enough to figure this out, but I was matched to the Renter using David's and they came to me with the idea already in place.

Here's another question for you if you rent points from an owner and they add the DDP for you. Once added does it show up on My Disney Experience anywhere that you now have the dining plan on that reservation?

As an owner I can see it and I sent them a screenshot to prove I had added it. I also know that if I had cancelled the DDP, it would have gone back on to the gift card, so if the Renter was curious and didn't believe the screenshot, they could have checked the value left on the card.

But I have never rented, so I don't know what it's like from the renter's perspective.

I appreciate it. I rented points for our May trip and owner is insisting I send her a check once the DDP is added. I wanted to just give her my credit card info so that I could see the charge on my acct for it. Very frustrating b/c I have rented many times in the past and owner always allowed me to use a CC so now I'm scared.

Unfortunately, all owners are different and have their own comfort. Maybe you could ask if they'd be willing to accept a gift card to share with MS instead.

I know. I'm just sending them the check. I checked the site and the DDP was added. I figured they would have preferred to use my cc then them having to front the money to book it. My concern was heaven forbid there was an issue I could as least pull my statement up when there to show the charge for the DPP from Disney for the amount.

I am renting points and just added deluxe dining to the reservation my renter called in my credit card info and has sent me the confirmation that DVC emailed her showing it was paid, however my credit card company says nothing has been charged to the card. I am not concerned about my rental person [she is awesome] but how long should I wait for charges to appear on my credit card. We leave in 2 weeks and I'm afraid maybe there was a problem with not having the right numbers and is not really paid for after all. The dining plan is not showing on My Disney Experience, everything else is there including Magical Express. Any input?

While I have never added the dining plan anything Disney has charged me for in the past has at least shown up in pending confirmations within 24 hours. If it is longer than that ask your renter to check with member services again.
