Renting car & picking up luggage

After the cruise, we are thinking about sending off one of the adults in our group to rent a van, drive back to the port and pick the rest of us & the luggage up. Our other plan was to get car service to WDW, then rent a van onsite.

Are you allowed to pickup curbside and will it be a total nightmare for someone that is not familiar with the port area? How crowded is it to pick people & luggage up at port?

TIA

Hertz, Avis, Budget, and National (I think) have shuttles that run all morning from the port to their offices in Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. When you get off the ship, have the porter take you to the shuttle pickup. I don't think that you can go back into the port area after debarkaction. Therefore I recommend that your entire group go with to get the car. We just did this and it was very easy.

Thanks Rick. We actually will have too much luggage to take all 7 of us in the rental van, so we will also have a limo take one adult and the kids to WDW (I'm volunteering for that duty) and the rest of us will be in the rental van. I don't think the 3 adults could wrangle everyone's bags (and scuba gear) on the rental car shuttle. I haven't had a lot of luck finding a car service that could take all of us after I explained the type of luggage, that's how this convoluted plan was hatched.

Are you sending at least some of the luggage with the 1 adult and kids in the limo? The one adult shouldn't have too much trouble with it, since the limo driver would load it in at the port and at the WDW resorts there are usually people who can take the luggage and deliver it to the room(s). That would at least cut down how much luggage the folks taking the van have to deal with....

Yep, the kid group will take some. We actually have been joking that the only reason we are bringing the kids is to increase our per person luggage allowance. :teeth:

Has anyone rented a car and come back to pick up their party?

My DH on our last cruise went with his uncle to get 2 rental cars. We were returning to different locations in flordia for the end of our trip. We waited outside the terminal with all the luggage while they went to get the cars. Took about 45min for them to return. It was 2 adults and 5 kids waiting. The people for the next cruise started to arrive when we were finally leaving.

The customs officials let me back inside the terminal to bring my daughter to the bathroom without any problems and this was about 1 month after Sept 11.
