I rented a car from Budget today and will pick it up on Sat. at MCO and return it to Budget in Cape Canaveral Sunday in the am. If we get there when it opens at 8am how long will drop off and the ride to the boat take us?
Also, we are going to pick up a car again after the cruise and take it to WDW. About how long is that process if we got off the boat asap? I know that someone has the detailed answer out there! DIS folks know just about everything!

I can share some info. on half of the process; we usually use Happy Limo, but we tried out Budget recently as research for my planning CD. I thought it would be a pain, but the process was actually quite smooth. The line at MCO was short, and they upgraded us from an economy car to a Ford Taurus. It had a shimmy at high speeds, but the extra space made up for it. When we arrived at the Budget office, it only took a few minutes to return the car as there was no line. Then we just had to wait a couple of minutes for the shuttle because they were switching drivers and we were on our way. The port is only a few minutes away, so it's a fast process. There is a gas station on A1A not far from the rental car office, so you can gas up there.
Happy Limo took us back to MCO, but when we went to meet the towncar, I noticed that a Budget shuttle was sitting there waiting so I suspect the service is good going back too.

We did this last sept......the drop off was very smooth and we were the only ones on the shuttle to the port.....we arrived quite early, even before the port parking lot opened.
after the cruise the we walked with our luggage a sort distance to the pick up point....that was the only bad part we waited quite a long time for the shuttle....still not sure what the hold up was. But they picked us up....we were about 3rd in line for pick-up so there was an acceptable wait time.....we got our car and were off.
We will be using them again in Sept 05, it was an overall great experience...especially considering with the Walmart discount codes it cost us less than $40 rental each way for a ford taurus.

hope that helps

What is the Walmart code?Don't you pay extra to drop off at a different location than pickup?
Thanks for your help!

you guys got my attention, I was planning to suck it up, and take the Disney bus to the port, but a rental car might work better for us, as we're spending the week prior to the cruise at WDW. doesn't it cost more to drop your car off at a different destination than where you pick it up from (i.e MCO to Port) the fare for the Disney bus from MCO is like $50.00 per person, right?

I have been a faithful national car rental customer for years, since we used to get a discount with the Disney Club. I booked National and was told I would have to take a cab, but I would be reimbursed for the fare.

Well first of all it took forever, and nobody ever reimbursed me the $22.00 it cost for the ride to the port and back to the rental agency after the cruise. The cab took over an hour to get to us after we got off the ship. We even skipped breakfast thinking we could get a jump on things.

I will not use National again if I have to deal with the one in Port Canaveral.

We have done car rentals several times and never had a problem. It does not cost anything extra to do a one-way rental. We did a Tampa Bay to the port on our last cruise and it was the same price as Orlando. It is much less expensive if you have more than 2 people to rent a car than use Disney transfers at $49 each. We rented two full size cars for $100. It would have cost us $196 to use transfers.

We got the rental car fro $39 for a mid sized car from Sat night at MCO till Sunday am from Budget. Alot cheaper than Disney. We are then renting a car, from Budget again, from Thurs till Sunday drop off at the airport for $116 compact ($128 mid size). I think I got a discount from Sam's Club or AAA. It cheaper than Disney trans and we can go shopping and buy some of our own food for WDW.

I just booked budget for April 17th. $39 for a midsize from MCO to port canaveral. Then on Thursday, $128 for three days and drop at MCO. Beats the $240 quote for the whole 8 days. We had several discounts but AAA came out lowest.

I am renting a mini van from Budget at MCO for $189.00 for the 4 day cruise and paying to park at the terminal ($40.00). It still is cheaper than paying $300.00 for Disney transfers for 6 people. I like knowing that the car is waiting for me at the end of the cruise instead of dealing with a one way rental.

Is the Budget rental counter, "on site" at the airport?

:D

I've made Budget reservations for April 16/17 and 24/25. I found that using no code gave me the cheapest price for a mini-van. I first used codes from Walmart and BJs, but then I decided to try no code. Base price ended up being about $5 cheaper.

I also rented from Budget MCO - an SUV for $169 total (with all taxes) for 7 days. We're visiting relatives before our cruise, and then heading to Orlando after the cruise, so we're keeping the car for a full week. This is the best rate I've ever received. Orbitz had a special code for Budget a couple months ago which is how I got the rate.

Thanks Zebrastripes. Good to know about all the possible discounts!
