I was wanting to rent some points and stay at BLT ..........this fall. How would I go about doing so?

Welcome to the DISBoards!

There are a couple of ways. You can go through a rental broker, like our Rent/Trade board advertiser David's DVC Rentals or you can reply directly into an existing Points for Rent thread on our Rent/Trade Board.

For more information about renting, you can read the **How to Use this Board** sticky on the Rent/Trade. There you'll find some links to other informative threads. Please note that you must be logged into the DISBoard in order to view/see the Rent/Trade Board.

For your own safety, please do NOT do business with anyone that may cold contact you via PM. You should be the person making the initial contact with whomever you choose. There have been very few problems using our Rent/Trade board, though there have been a few. Most, but not all, of them were the result of doing business with someone with whom the renter did not make the initial contact.

for BLT for this fall, you are probably much too late. BLT owners have been booking those rooms since 11 months out. but you never know till you try...

Also, Fall is a busy time due to Food and Wine Festival in October. Rooms get booked up fast... you may only have Saratoga left.

Only DVC owners can check availability. Unless you can find an owner with a confirmed reservation, you are going to be out of luck for this October. BLT owners can book now for May 2014, so I would start looking for an owner to rent from soon. Good luck.

Where can I go to check availability? ......

Non members cannot check availability. It changes so often, that availability checks are of no value until one is ready to actually book, anyway. When you are ready to book, the member will check for you and book the reservation.

There is a lot of info in the thread Chuck referred to in his post - you will find answers to many of your questions there.

The DIS does not allow rental requests except on the Rent/Trade Board. You must be logged into the DIS to see that forum. The policy is intended to minimize problem transactions. Some people have had problems when they choose to deal with posters who contact them "out of the blue" via PM or email. We strongly suggest you not deal with anyone UNLESS you contact them first via a reply to a thread on the Rent/Trade Board.

I edited your post to remove the specific information so that your post would not be construed as a rental request (even though I do not think that was your intent).

Feel free to ask very general questions about the rental process if you still have questions after reading the Sticky Threads at the TOP of the Rent/Trade Board.

Thanks for being the first helpful person on this thread. That is the information I was looking for.

Thank you for doing so. I did not mean to upset the natives.

Seriously? You have 4 or 5 people say that less than four months out is much too late to book a timeshare and you call them unhelpful? The reason we don't have to even look at availability to tell you that the odds aren't good is because we've already seen the threads griping about how there are no rooms available anywhere on October, November or December XX. You're looking to rent points at one of the most popular DVC resorts at one of the most popular times for DVC. Between Food and Wine at Epcot and then the Halloween and Christmas parties at MK, BLT becomes a very desirable resort from mid-Sept, clear through mid-January.

If you are just looking for a MK resort tomorrow opens up to all members to book VGF until Dec 31, there may be more availability for a few short days there. Just a thought.

I thought hurricane season was a good time to go because crowds are low; if crowds are low then there should be lots of availability right?

Sounds to me like your first question was not what you wanted to ask.

You may be right. I really wanted to stay somewhere on the monorail and renting a DVC seemed like an attractive option because it seems cheaper to rent points @ $14 than it is to book a room at any of the resorts directly with Disney. Am I wrong? Is this a difficult process? Too bad it costs so much to just buy my own points, sure would make things easier.

It is cheaper to rent points than to book a resort directly with Disney. But, if it were so easy to rent this close to the trip, very few people will buy.

DVC owner travel pattern and non-owner travel patterns are different. It may be hurricane season but points are low and F&W and Halloween party make October very popular. In fact, October to January normally gets booked out at 11 months on popular resorts by owners and the remaining at exactly 7 months out. A lot are already in waiting lists hoping for early bookers to cancel.

You're looking at 4 months - which in the timeshare world is very late booking. You CAN try but people are telling you not to get your hopes up. If you're set on the date, SSR, OKW or AKV are probably your best bet. If you're looking at a few days here and there, you might get lucky.

If you really want a monorail resort, VGF opens up for everyone tomorrow, you'll have a good chance if you line up a renter now/today.

Thanks...that is a great explanation. I am not sure I can go this fall yet, just depends on if I can get off work or not. Next May is my next choice, but our youngest will have turned 3 by then so that is one more ticket to buy.

Lorie - That's not quite true. There is a 4 month window for DVC members who want to book a stay at the VGF this year. The usual 7 month window applies to stays that begin 1/1/2014 and later.

So on June 23, only VGF owners can book a stay that begins between October 24 & December 31.

:crazy2::crazy2: If your work schedule does not allow a 4-7 month vacation notice, DVC will not work for you. With a short notice, you will only have Saratoga Resort if you want to have consecutive days like for a week.

I suggest you read other threads about how DVC owners trying to reserve right on 7 or 11 months window, right at the website allocation release like 8am... That is how competitive it is. :crowded:

BLT is one of the most desirable Disney resort. It is modern, on monorail, right next to MK. Like you, everyone wants it. It is like NY Time Square at New Year... if you don't plan ahead, you are not going to get any room space.

My work schedule does allow me to plan as far in advance as I want. I just have some deadlines that may or may not impact me this fall, so that is why I am thinking next May instead. That said, I'd prefer to go this fall if I can.

I just read from another thread someone's BLT wait-list just cleared so there is hope. The only thing is, most owners will be reluctant to wait-list for their renter because of the outcome uncertainty. There are people selling confirmed DVC reservation here and another owner forum, you may try that route too.
