Forgive my ignorance, as a non-DVC member, but a potential "renter" of points, what is the difference in renting and transferring? Thank you all for any and all info! Michael D.

A transfer of points occurs between two DVC owners.

As a non-DVC member/owner, you cannot accept a transfer of points. You cannot do anything with points. As a renter, you actually rent a reservation that is made with points. You cannot use points as a currency.

Thank you so much. That explains a lot! I appreciate your time in explaining! Michael D.

Does Disney facilitate the transfers? As a possible buyer I'm curious how that works. I remember you answered previously about them not being involved with the rentals. Another question, when you see people renting points at a premium above the maintenance fees, does that represent the "real cost" or loss of value by not using the points? Or are people able to make additional income renting or transferring to put towards the initial purchase cost?

The two members get on the line with Member Services, but that is as far as they facilitate. They don't match people who want to transfer with those who need them, and officially it's not supposed to be a paid transaction. Anything that is a contract between a member and another member, or a member and a non-member, Disney stay OUT of any participation in the contract/

When you rent points, you can deduct certain costs from the income, but there is income involved. t is declarable on US taxes, and probably elsewhere too but I ain't touching THAT question.

Thank you! Your explanations are so easy to understand!
