We were thinking of renting a Class C RV to see if we want to take the plunge and buy one. Family of 5 (3 little boys). We want advice as to if this is the way to try and see if it is for us. The rent is kinda steep from what I've found out but cheaper than buying one and not liking it. Any pros or cons to this idea would be great. We would be comming from Michigan so the rent is making me think a long trip like this is not the best way to try it on for size, but than again maybe it is. Please comment.

I have considered this as well. Where did you rent it from? National chain?

I think renting a C Class is a great way to try it on for size. Much better than investing $60,000 and finding out you made a mistake. In fact, I think you should rent several times, to make sure you like that much togetherness. You will either love it or decide not to go through with it. Buying is permanent.<sigh> I suggest some shorter trips, though. That long drive from Michigan is gonna be a trial no matter what; don't think I'd do it in a rented RV the first time.

You know the old adage--"The two best days of an RVers life are the day you bought and the day you sell it."

What we did in November was to rent in Kissimmee and drive it to FtW to camp in for the week. I was so sure that I was going to love it and had even looked at a few RVs prior to us going. I absolutely hated camping in a RV and will NEVER do it again! That's not saying that you will hate it. MANY people love it. We found out that it isn't for us, that's all. I highly recommend renting before actually buying one to see how you like it. I would be just sick if I had bought one without trying it out first by renting  .

We rented an RV, don't know what class but it was 34' long, last October for an 8 day trip to Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion national parks. We LOVED it, but wouldn't want to own one ourselves! If you want to just try one, don't start by driving from Michigan! The gas alone will eat you alive, plus you have to pay for miles. We bought our miles in packs of 300. You do want to get a feel for how comfortable you are driving one, so take it for a spin around FL before heading to Disney. I don't think renting an RV and camping at FW is really cost effective. RVs can be up to 300 per night, plus FW rent. Lots to think about.

Wow! I didn't pay anywhere near that. We rented a class C 25' and it cost us less than $500 for 7 nights (of course the one you rented was much larger and maybe it wasn't a class C).
