renting a Harley

Hi

My DH and my friends DH are considering renting a couple of Harley's while on holiday. Both have motorbikes in UK.

Has anyone rented a motorbike in Orlando?

I found a website which stated that the deposit for renting a motorbike is $1000 and that the insurance for renting doesn't cover the first $1000 of damage - no matter who's fault the 'scratch' or 'damage' is.

Does anyone have any info on whether or not there is an insurance that can be taken out for motorbikes which covers things like UMP, like the car rental insurances?

Any info will be much appreciated.

Hi Helen

We considered renting a harley on a couple of occasions but found the first time we had to be members of HOG to hire. The second time they wanted $1000, $2000 or $3000 deposit depending on what level of insurance you take out so we didn't hire or check the insurance terms & conditions. The only problem with such a large deposit is if they actually take it from your CC and then refund on return, you could end up loosing hundreds of pounds on the refunds as the CC companies treat this almost as a buy back so give you a really bad exchange rate.
When we were in Orlando in December we found another Harley outlet, next to last day in the Gaylord palms hotel, at the US192 end of International Drive, they have a shop in the concorse worth a visit if only to have a look around the hotel. Thanks for the info.

I looked at the website but it looks as if there is a $1000 deposit required and if there is any damage to the bike then the first $1000 of the damage is the riders responsibility. Is this how you read it also?
