We are heading down to WDW for our first home visit at BLT in March. We will be flying down, and using DME.

We have a dear relative who lives only 1 1/2 hours away from WDW, and we are thinking about renting a car for the day to go and visit her. Has anyone had any experience with renting a car for such a short period of time? Where would be the best place to rent from? Is the Alamo on site easy to get to? Does anyone know if they would bring the car to us at the resort?

Any feedback/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Alamo/National at the Car Care Center is very convenient.

You call ahead (IIRC, between 1 hr & 1 day) & they send the shuttle to pick you up. For return service I would just verify the shuttle operational hours as I think it stops running an hour before closing.

You can make the reservation on-line just like any other location & use the kiosk or the counter at the time of pick up.

Before DME, I use to rent a car at the airport and keep it for the enite week which often was a waste of money since I only use the car 2 or 3 day's going off property.

I now take DME to my resort than use Alamo or National Car Rental, which is located at the Disney Care Car Center near the Magic Kingdom Parking lot Entrance.

Their prices are pretty reasonable, just do the math first. Sometimes it's cheaper to rent from the airport and keep the car for your entire stay. While other times it's cheaper to use DME and just rent the car on Disney's property for the day's you need.

Also book ahead and compare prices using coupons & prices between Alamo or National Car Rental. Their prices has been know to drop after booking and sometimes be more expanse when using coupons.

Book through Alamo or National Car Rental Website for which I thing is the best price. NOT OVER THE PHONE.

When you arrived at Disney World. You must call Alamo or National 24rs in advance to schedule a pickup from your resort. Alamo or National Car Rental will sent their free shuttle bus or van to pickup you & your family, and take you to the Disney Car Care Center to get your rental car.

Once you return the rental car, they will then drop you off back at your resort.

This past summer, it was just me and my kids (20, 16, and 13) so I didn't want to drive to/from the airport. DH usually is with us and without him, too hard.

So, we took ME to the resort and rented from National through the site at the Dolphin. We were staying at BWV for the first few nights so it was a quick walk over to get the car.

The day before we left, we took it back (easy again) and then took the boat over to Epcot and spent some time there. We were now at VWL and just took the bus from Epcot back to the resort.

When I was looking up prices, it was cheaper from this site than the Magic Care and the airport so we went with it. I had heard though that they will shuttle you back and forth which can be very convenient.

Good luck!

We rented a small car for one day this past November. Got it from National at the Dolphin desk. Easy enough to get there from BLT (which is where we stayed). I prefer to get there on my own rather than wait on a shuttle. Believe we paid about $40, but we did have an AARP discount. FWIW, the parking at BLT is very convenient and close in. Best guest parking arrangment on property IMO

We're staying at THV and moving to AKV halfway through. There is an Alamo Rental Car at the Buena Vista Palace across from DTD (convenient for SSR & not BLT), but I've found they have the best prices for an SUV. We'll pick up the car the morning after we arrive, and we're turning the car in on our last day, having lunch at DTD and taking the bus back to AKV for our 4PM DME departure.
