Hi,
As far as I know (from first hand experience), Alamo is one that does.
However, with a debit card, you will have to provide proof of a return flight.
I believe they also run a credit report, and can deny you at the counter if it's got problems.
We saw a couple denied due to credit at Alamo about a year ago, how embaressing for them. She was in tears. With what we heard of the conversation, the female had good credit but no credit card or check card, and he was denied for rental due to credit issues. I do'nt know what happened, we got our car and left while they were still talking to the agent next to us.
You know what--you could be right, and now that I think about it, it moght have been Dollar. If so I stand corrected and apologize for any misinformation.
Yep, Dollar does the credit check and Alamo does not.
Good or bad credit, it's not a good idea to have a credit check done merely for a rental car, imho...
Also, Alamo does not put a hold on the card, either. They only charge the amount for the rental.
(I think Dollar puts a hold in addition to the credit check)
Yes, Dollar puts something like a $225 or the price of the rental whichever is higher hold on the renter's credit card. And they won't do the credit check in advance (so the potential customer would know before reserving the car if they'd actually be allowed to rent it). Instead, apparently, they opt for the 'embarass the customer' route...
Anyway, the OP should check the websites for ALL the car rental agencies - they may have more than just Alamo as an option. Look at the Policies FAQ, or something similar to that.
budget is very debit card friendly. 125% of rental or 200 dollars which ever is greater is held for the duration of the rental. If you sign up for (fastbreak) the rental process goes very quickly. You can skip the regular lines and go to the kiosk in the car garage flash your debit card and Id. after than they hand you your keys and you are on your way. It could not get any easier than that.
