Hi.....

So I will be in Disney this September for 7 days with a party of 8. We are thinking of doing Harry Potter in Universal for a day in the middle of our trip. I dont really want to rent a car for the whole time we are there as there is really no need for it but that one day. How will I go about renting a car while in Disney for a day???? I know they do have Alamo somewhere in Disney but not sure how to go about it? Should I do that now or wait till we are on our trip???? Please help????

I believe you can rent at the car care center.
Also, my friends rent at The Swan & Dolphin.

Try Alamo, use "Disney Car Care Center" as your pickup location and just plug in your dates to see what you get.
The Car Care Center will pick you up from your resort and shuttle you to their location (and back to your resort when you drop off)
https://www.alamo.com/en_US/car-rental/home.html
TIP: One day rentals are up to 24 hours so you could rent first thing in the morning and drop off later that evening or keep it until the next morning (price will be the same as long as you keep the rental within the 24 hours)
You could also pick it up the night before if you want to go to Universal for rope drop, just remember it need to be returned within 24 hours (ie: rent at 8pm- return following day 8pm OR pickup 8am return following morning at 8am)

Book something now that is cancel-able, if plans change or you see a price drop, cancel and rebook. Don't wait until the day you need the vehicle as they may have nothing available that fits your needs (or just nothing available). Same day rental prices can also be quite a bit higher than one that was booked in advance.

Only issue I foresee is that it could be hard to find an 8 passenger vehicle, most minivans only seat 7 (except the Toyota Sienna which seats 8, but hard to find). Full size SUV may have 3rd row seating, in which case it will seat 8. Sometimes there is the option for a 15 passenger van, these are behemoths and a bit of a bear to drive but you'll definitely have room for everyone (they can be expensive and may require the extra insurance coverage be taken).

Uber or a Car Service may be an option, but with 8 passengers could be costly since you will likely need 2 vehicles.
