I'm looking for advice on renting a car from WDW to Vero to MCO. We're flying in and taking ME to WDW for a six night stay and have reservations at Vero for three nights after that. Any advice on the best way to rent a car? I know they rent from the Dolphin and disney's car care location. But the price seems steep. Is it worth it to take ME back to MCO to rent from and return to that location? Or does convenience trump the extra cost of renting from one location and returning to another?

Personally I would rent it at the Airport. It's usually significantly cheaper.

Maybe I waited too long to book. Looking at the companies who rent out of WDW, Alamo and National, the price (while high) is pretty close to renting from the airport. It's just a 4 day rental so no weekly discounts.

We rent from Alamo at the Dolphin. Great service, easy pickup and we have never had a problem renting from there.

We have also rented from MCO, hotel blvd and the car care center and have had issues at all three. Had a reservation at the car care center, went to pick up our car and they didn't have it, they were sold out. I explained that we had a reservation and was told that a reservation doesn't guarantee a car. :scared1

Ended up finding Alamo at the Dolphin and have used them ever since.

Lots of people are surprised to hear that Shades of Green also has on site auto rental. You can walk to the Poly or GF from there.

I've done split trips between Orlando and Vero a few times. I always end up getting a car for the whole week out of Thrifty at MCO. I am Blue chip member so I just walk out to the Garage and get in. They have a board for blue chip so you don't even go to a counter. Of course I go in Early Dec and Feb, both cheap times to rent. This year First week in Feb I got a convertible Mustang. 230.00 all in for the week. I had an economy booked for 140.00 all in but decided to spend the extra 90. Best money I ever spent. The trick with Thrifty is to check often and rebook when it goes down. My experience has been I've gotten the cheapest rates around 3 to 4 weeks out. You may find a weekly rental is not that much more than a few day rental and even though ME is good having a car has advantages .

Just wanted to thank you for your advice. I did check out Thrifty but they have such terrible reviews (for the MCO location) I went with Alamo at the Dolphin. While we could have had the whole 9 days for about $100 more (from the major companies), it wasn't worth it for us. We enjoy the anticipation of our trip riding DME and we hate driving in FL. Plus we have lots of signature dinners planned as its our 30th anniversary. We like to order the bottle, not the glass and WDW transportation is a big plus for us.

You might also check Dollar who rents from a hotel across from DTD. We found them cheaper many times. I would also compare what it will cost for the whole trip if you rent at the airport when you get there and return it there when you leave with what it will cost for just the trip over to Vero and back. It may not be that much different. We have gotten some really good rates throuogh Hotwire but of course it can vary with time of year also. Check mousesavers for discount codes and coupon suggestions. Good luck and hope you have a wonderful trip,.
