renting a cabin or bringing our pop up and dog down

We have plans for our family to stay in the cabins in April 2015. The kids will pay for 1 cabin and we will pay for the other. Got a brainstorm last night and thought that if we brought our pop up down we could bring our dog and then for the cost of the trailer vs the cabin rates we could then vacation after the trip and take side trips on the way back to Michgan. So then we have a vehicle there and would not have to rent a van, so that would be another cost we wouldn't have. The kids will still rent a cabin. The best and worse thing is that we would not have to leave our dog (she is 5 and we have never left her). But we would have to take her to the kennel there everyday so we can go on our way with the family. Wondering if that is a real pain. So what are your opinions on this plan? Any other ways we would save if we brought the pop up down? Oh yeah, 2 plane tickets!

I always vote for bringing the dog along.

1) No dogs allowed in popups without A/C.
2) No dogs allowed in cabins.
3) You can put the dog in Day Pet Care at WDW as you mentioned.

i also vote camper and DOG! :cool1:

you will save a bit of money and the pup will be sooo happy to be along for the ride. :)

we don't go anywhere without our four legged kids and they know it!

Is your dog a camper? Will he/she try to chew out of a popup? Will he/she bark all day when you are in the Parks?

I love the cabins but unfortunately you can't bring your dog. If it is important to you to bring your dog then go with the camper. I like the idea of side stops on the way home.

For the price of a plane ticket you could get a portable air conditioner unit. Would the dog be okay in her crate while you are at the parks? You could come back to the pop up for lunch and save funds that way, too, plus walk the dog and have some cuddle time.

Leaving her at the Best Friends for daycare every day won't be inexpensive, so you'll want to look at the rates and factor that in. You'll also need to factor in the pet fee, I feel like it is $5 a day...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I think I'd lean toward bringing her if she's a good traveler and does well in the car and camper. What is the longest car trip she's been on so far? You might want to take a regional trip or two to work up to long driving days to make sure she does alright. Does she sleep well in the camper and like to hang around with you guys when camping regularly?

Also, if she likes other dogs, there's a great dog park at the Fort.

We like traveling with our dogs. One has been to Florida twice with us (once to the Fort and once to Fort Myers), and then we added our second to the family and with two we went out to the Midwest for two weeks this summer. Taking dogs along does limit you in how long you can be out, but sometimes that's a good thing and it forces you to relax back at the camper!

I vote bring your camper or pop up, you will save in the long run.
Plus side is you will be able to stop on the way down and back... I love the drive to Disney and I enjoy it more now that we have a motorhome..
I wished my husband would have listen to me years ago and brought us a pop up for our trips to Disney...

Is the Disney rule "no pets in popups without air conditioning" or "no pets in pop ups?"

Thanks Bama Ed, hope this helps.
We would never leave our dog in the pop up and it does have air conditioning but I don't think she would feel safe without us there. The kennel would be the best place I think. Our Brittany Maggie loves to travel, and camp. When we start to put up the camper she tries to get in asap. My dh thinks though that the togetherness as a family might be compromised if we are not staying together in the cabins. I think it would be just fine but having to take her to the kennel and picking her up and adr's etc may get complicated? I am looking into the best friends kennel.

Saw the website. We would have reservations for LaNouba one evening but it looks like they close 1 hour after parks close? We would be there in April so don't know when the parks would close then. Do they board overnight, would hate to do that but just in case,,,,,

Yes, Best Friends boards overnight as well. We've used them for both daycare and overnight and they were very good. You choose the size/level of accommodation for overnight and if you want to include any playgroups or walks or whatever.

Is the Disney rule "no pets in popups without air conditioning" or "no pets in pop ups?"

TO CLARIFY:
1) Pets are welcome at a limited number of pet-friendly sites
. . . Preferred Hook-Up
. . . Premium Campsites
2) All pets must be kept on a handheld leash that is 6 feet or shorter
3) Pets must be confined in the interior of the owner's personal recreational vehicle.
4) For pop-ups and tents, pets must be secured in a container such as a portable cage or kennel.
5) Pets are not permitted in tents or vehicles without air-conditioning.
