For those of you who rent a house or apartment, do you pay all your utilities? Does your landlord pay any? Just curious.

I used to rent, and it varied.

My last place I had to pay everything, including water and sewage. Some renters in the same complex didn't have to pay it. It just depended on the landlords. At some places I lived at, I only had to pay electric, gas and phone. Others, I also had to pay heat.

When I was a landlord, the renters paid for all utilities except or water and sewage.

It depends, when I rented a house I paid all of the utilities including sewer and water. When i was in an apartment complex water and gas were included.

I pay all of my own utilities where I am now, nothing is included. The other two apartment complexes where I'd lived, heat and hot water were included.

we rent an apartment for my son on Beacon Hill in Boston and we pay for gas and electric. The landlord pays for heat and hot water.
Some include gas, electric, cable but they are far and few between!

Also, the landlord regulates the heat for the building. It was 90 degrees in there in Sept. when we had a heat spell, so my son called and asked them to turn down the heat. Now it's cold in there when they should have it rather warm. Looks like he'll be calling again after winter break.

Yikes, I wouldn't be able to handle that...the landlord controlling the heat.

We pay electric (boogie-woogie-woogie), landlord pays water & sewage.

This apartment, Heat, Hot water, Gas for cooking, and electric is included, because it is a huge victorian with only 1 system etc...oh and trash and yard maintanance and plowing are included

Thermostat is in front foyer, and we all leave it at 68.

Last apartment, cold water and sewer were included, I paid heat, hot water, electric...

we pay everything.. heat, water, sewer, cable and so on. We also do all our grass cutting and snow plowing.

We pay for all of our utilities. The association fee (which is included in our rent) also includes cable, so that is the only thing we don't pay seperate, but we really pay it anyways.

Where we used to live (we owned, but there were renters in the building) the water, sewage, and refuse, were all included in the association fees.

We live in a two-unit rowhouse that used to be privately owned, and at one time would have been a 5-6 bedroom single family home. Our rent includes heat & hot water, both are fueled by oil and there is just the one furnace for both units. Water, sewer, trash and recycling are also included. We also pay a small surcharge to have our dogs, as we have since we moved here in 2002.

Thanks for the replies. I was just curious. I rented about 10 years ago and back then landlords paid the water, sewer and garbage...some even paid the heat. Now, most tenants have to pay all their own utilities...even water, sewer and garbage.

We pay everything. I'll be so glad when our house is done. At least then it won't seem like ALL the money is going toward nothing.
