Renters getting DVC perks?

Since when do renters get DVC perks? According to another poster on the restaurants board, a renters KTTW card says they are DVC members so they are getting all ther perks as an actual member.

The thing that makes me the most mad is that renters are able to use the TWOL when staying at BLT on rented points, but an actual DVC member staying at a different resort will be turned away.

Something is off here. Why are renters KTTW cards saying they are DVC members?

The room keys say "DVC Member" because they are using a point reservation made for them by a DVC member. While it is required in our POS for the member to inform Memeber Services if the reservation is a rental, I would be few owners actually do so.

They do not receive the AP discount, and many of the other venues do ask for a DVC Membership card...but not all of them. As it has been reported on some threads that TOWL isn't all that busy, it probaby isn't a bad thing to allow renters up there. If it continued to be underutilized after BLT is fully sold, I would expect the lounge to either open to all guests, or be closed except for private functions. Disney/DVC isn't going to continue subsidizing an underutilized venue for long.

Guests often get discounts and perks. The legalities say they are not guaranteed but are not automatically prevented from getting any of the perks. DVC has the option of limiting or not.

I've heard the internet access that is $10 per 24 hour period is sometimes free for renters.

I think that folks often generalize the word 'renter' as well. If my sister uses my points, I wouldnt list her as a 'renter' and would expect that she get the same benefits that I would if I were staying at the resort.

I should disclose that I also take issue with this constant complaint that people staying on points at another resort should be able to use TOTWL at BLT. The point difference between a stay at BLT vs. most other resorts is pretty significant - it doesnt seem unreasonable to me that anyone staying there using the point system (whether they are yours, you 'borrowed' them, or you 'rented' them) deserves this perk over someone who didnt put up the same amount of points for their stay. If you want access to the lounge - get a room there! Okay - vent over for now..

I too would not think my family as renters so would not notify MS for them, whether I was along for the trip or not. Of course, we all know if they are traveling with the owner as guests, the should have the DVC member label on their KTTW cards. However, as Chuck S stated per the POS the owner should notify MS when making a reservation for a renter, as renters are not permitted DVC member perks, including free internet and dining discounts.

Actually I think this is almost always the case. Renters staying on points will generally get free internet and members staying as an exchange or cash (not MS) are not.

While it may be different in the minds of some, technically there is no difference. DVC defines a rental as when anything of value is provided to the owner in return for the reservation. In it's extreme, even the party paying for a meal as "payment" for a points reservation is a rental.
