I'm renting points for the first time and had a question about room requests. I thought I read something about this but can't find the thread now. My question is how do I make room requests? I don't want anything complicated (just top floor water view if possible). As a renter am I allowed to call MS and put my request on the reservation? Or should the member who made the reservation for me call (but I really hate to bother them with this)? Or maybe I could fax it in?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

DVC members have been told NOT to fax in room requests. Requests are best made at the same time as the reservation to assure getting what you want. Most will specify smoking preference first, and then a view etc. I would limit your requests to 3 and know that they are just that...REQUESTS, and there are no guarantees.

PS, let the member call to make your requests.

Only the DVC owner can make the request. If you have one, it's easy for the member you're renting from to call MS and add it to the reservation. The best way is to do it at the time of the reservation so that it shows up on the confirmation paper Disney sends out and you get a copy of.

Many DVC owners give the renter the Member Services number (which we can't post here), so they can check on their requests, verify the reservation, make DME arrangement, etc, etc. [Flame Retardant Suit On] You can make your own requests, or change them, if the owner gives you that number.

I'd suggest the same strategy many of us use -- figure out what's most important to you, and request that. We always have a non-smoking medical request, and seldom do more than that. Most people probably do two. I think if you do half a dozen, your chances of being disappointed are exponentially increased.

Bear in mind that requests are just that -- requests, not guarantees.

I guess the answers above have probably confused you. Some owners do not like a renter calling MS, because we pay for MS through our annual dues.

However, MS has no problem with it, and SOMEONE is going to have to call them.

Dianne and Granny's points are right-- the BEST time to make requests is at the time of reservation. That's better for everyone...IF you know what you want. One call for the whole transaction.

You really need to contact the member to make any changes or additions to your reservation. That should be part of their agreement to make the reservation for you. Non-members should not call MS to make changes or additions to a points reservation.
