Renter protection

There are risks on both sides of renting
I think that this is really what it all comes down to::yes:: No there's really not much recourse for a renter if the the person renting them the points takes the money and runs so to speak but on the other hand, the member renting has risks involved too that the person renting will cancel last minute or not come through with their payments and so on and then they risk possibly loosing their pts and such. :guilty: :worried: So there really are risks all the way around which is something to keep in mind. The flip side of "what if the member takes the money and runs?" is "Why would the member want to risk loosing their pts. for a total stranger?"

Just be sure that you are comfortable with who you rent from before venturing into the process. FWIW, it's usually a win/win situation for all involved. I rented the extra points I needed for last weeks trip due to having run short this last trip. It worked out wonderful for both of us...just be sure you're comfortable and if not go through CRO

Look for somebody that has plenty of posts here on the DIS. Then look at their posts. I figure if they've been around for a while and a Disney fan and a DVC member, I'm pretty safe.

I would actually, as a DVC member, be more afraid of YOU as the renter renting MY points. Because if you tear up something in that unit, I could be held responsible for what you do. I actually would look for another DVC member to rent to if I were renting my points. I think it's risky on both sides. But more so for the DVC owner in my honest opinion. If a renter cancels at the last minute, I can lose those points totally or they go into a "holding account" with booking restrictions.

It involves trust on both sides.
