There are risks on both sides of renting
I think that this is really what it all comes down to

No there's really not much recourse for a renter if the the person renting them the points takes the money and runs so to speak but on the other hand, the member renting has risks involved too that the person renting will cancel last minute or not come through with their payments and so on and then they risk possibly loosing their pts and such.

So there really are risks all the way around which is something to keep in mind. The flip side of "what if the member takes the money and runs?" is "Why would the member want to risk loosing their pts. for a total stranger?"
Just be sure that you are comfortable with who you rent from before venturing into the process. FWIW, it's usually a win/win situation for all involved. I rented the extra points I needed for last weeks trip due to having run short this last trip. It worked out wonderful for both of us...just be sure you're comfortable and if not go through CRO
