Rental Warning Letter

Hi Everyone

I have just received a warning letter from DVC that the use of points for rental can result in "disciplinary action" including "termination" of the contract. It was ambiguous as to whether or not this was only because I obtained a cast members discount when I originally purchased the points.

I have no problem with this as I have never rented out points and never intend to.

Did anyone else receive a letter like this?

Best wishes
Nick

I got that letter a month ago. I was also curious about the rules concerning selling the points? It seemed like we could not sell them for more $$ than we paid originally. I may sell mine in the next year, and since they are BCV, they should sell for more than I paid.....

I'd have to say that the selling restriction somewhat makes sense to me. I'm not sure what the cast member discount is, but if it's large enough, cast members could just buy and sell DVC points and play that spread to make money off of the CM discount. I can't blame DVC for wanting to prevent that. I haven't quite determined why they would restrict renting though.

Because the Disney company does not want to be competing with their own employees, to whom they granted a purchase discount, for room rental income.

The restriction on the discount include such restrictions. The issue for some might be that that restriction hasn't been in place the entire time that such a discount has been available (my understanding at least), so it might not be applicable to all who received a CM discount.

Well that definitely makes sense, and not sure why that didn't hit me when I realized why they would limit the resales. Thanks for the assist.

I was a part time employee back in the early '90s at the Disney Catalog telecenter in Kansas City. I purchased my first contract with the employee discount. Understand, I have not worked for Disney since 1993 and was quite surprised to get that letter. I now have three other contracts that were purchased as a regular consumer.

I called the name and number listed on the letter and received a call back a day or two later. I was told that all employees who purchased DVC up to a certain year (not sure - 2006 seems to come to mind but I really don't recall) were not provided with any specific "employee" restrictions with regards to renting or selling their DVC contract. Following that date all employees had to sign one additional piece of paper when they went to closing and it covered these restrictions. I was told all current and former employees that own DVC received the letter and it was not targetted to anyone in particular.

I remain a bit suspicious but it is what it is.

I am a former cast member as well and purchased 4 of my 5 contract as an employee, all prior to 2006... I got a good deal on my points and if Disney wants to buy them back for what I paid for them I would be fine with that!!! In some cases it is more than the going rate...Wonder if they would pony up the premium!:rotfl2:

Same here! I am willing and ready to sell my Vero Points back to Disney for what I paid them.:dance3::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

We received the letter as well. Maybe if you were an employee who purchased or purchased with an employee for the discount you got the letter!
