Rental question -- need help quickly!

Leaving in the morning, renting a car through Dollar.

Need pros & cons of taking their insurance. If we decline their insurance, do we need to bring proof of our own insurance? I didn't think to ask about that when I was at AAA this morning.

Do you have a personal auto policy with comp & collision coverage? Are you renting with a gold or platnium Mastercard or Visa? Both will give you insurance coverage.

I've only rented with National, they never gave me a problem about declining insurance. They never asked for any kind of proof, but take your insurance card with you. If you would have an accident, you are going to need the information on it to fill out an accident report.
