Rental house pool heater

Hi We will be renting a house in the four corners area in mid Nov. The pool has a heater which we will be paying to activate. Do you think the pool will be warm enough the first day? Or will it take awhile before the water is swimmable? Never had a pool so we do not know what to expect when we first arrive.

Your best bet is to contact your management company or owner and inquire as to what temperature they set the pool at. We have stayed at villas where the pool temperature was anywhere between 78 to 90! You can also inquire as to whether there is another guest staying immediately before you arrive and if they are paying to heat the pool. If so, your pool should be heated when you arrive. As you are paying extra for pool heat most people would assume that the pool will be warm when they arrive, but not necessarily so! This year the people staying next door to us chose not to heat the pool for 2 months and when the next renters arrived, the pool was unswimable despite the new renters paying for pool heat. If the temperature is cool at night, it can also take up to 5-7 days to come up to temperature! This said, I would not hesitate to pay the extra for pool heat or find a management company that factors the extra cost into your daily rental costs.

As the previous poster said, it depends on lots of things. I agree that contacting the owner or manager would be worthwhile. Unless you specifically ask, and pay for, they will probably turn on the heat the day of your arrival.

My new pool heater will add about one degree an hour to the temperature of our pool. My old heater was about a half degree an hour. A big difference in how long it takes to heat the pool. When we were renting we would have the heat set to around 86 degrees. In November the pool could easily be down in the low 70's. So it could take a day or two to warm up depending on the strength of the heater and the size of the pool.

Depends on the heater. If it is a gas heater, they generally heat the pool faster than an electric heater. At least in my experience with pools.

Yes! I wish I had gas to feed my pool heater. No gas in our neighborhood. Mine is an electric heat pump, more efficient than the old one but still expensive to run.
