Can someone tell me why I have to provide the date of birth of my children (if under 18) for a rental home? They say it is Florida State Law but I tried to google it and cannot find anything.:confused3
We don't like providing information like that if it's not absolutely necessary.
If someone can comment, I would appreciate it.:surfweb:

I have only seen a couple of them that ask for that. It may depend upon which management company they use. I am not sure if it is Florida law or not.

We have rented in the Orlando area almost every year and this is the first time I have come across this (except when we have stayed on property of course.)

Happy Planning!

Thanks for the info...I guess I'll leave it blank and see what they say!

This may have to do with occupancy limits/laws. You may be able to have more children per room if you have an infant. I'd provide an age but I would feel uncomfortable providing an actual DOB.

As a recent victim of identity theft, I would say that I'd not give them that information. Just give the age range and see what happens.

Management companies have said that due to Florida law, there must be a record of the age of anyone under 18 yrs. They do not need actual birthdates, as far as I know. I think it is in case of fire or other emergency, there will be a record of who they should be looking for, children or adults.(heaven forbid!)

Didn't think they needed actual birthdate, just need age of any one under age of 18. Has to do with fire codes, occupancy limits, also many have age requirements to rent the villa. I would just put the age in at time of rental, I would also be leary with birth dates. Although on the Disney Cruise, I had to give actual birth dates for my grandchildren, and adults as well!

Osceola County has a law requiring owners and rental companies to keep a guest register, which includes ages. We do ours by listing them in categories.. 1) infant 2) under 18 3) over 18, which meets the requirements of the statute.

Actually, I believe the requirement started after 9/11 due to homeland security. As such, it's a rather silly law, since anyone can really put down any name they want, since there's no requirement to go and check everyone's ID or anything along those lines.
