Rental home pool problem. What would you do?

OP - there have been tons of opinions on here (including mine...lol). Just wondering what you decided to do and what the results were??

No. Assuming the landlord does the right thing and refunds the heat cost, the renter DID get what they paid for... "house with pool."

And let me just say, I have no problem with a REQUEST for a discount, I just don't think it should be EXPECTED. And how do you come up with 10%? Why not 5? 15?

Oh sorry, I thought by reading this thread that they rented a "house with heated pool", hence the pool heating charge.

As to how I came up with 10%, once again I could have sworn I saw that number mentioned by various other posters. Am I wrong again?

Geez, do you post just to read yourself type?

As I said in my post, IF THEY GET REFUNDED THE HEAT FEE, they will have paid for, and RECEIVED "house with pool". If they don't get refunded the heat fee, there's a problem. I've said that from the beginning.

The 10% was a question for anyone to answer.

I'm not going to say anything else to avoid a chance of getting points.

I have not heard back from the owner yet.

The only reason we came up with the 10% is because that is paying close to what they rent the house for in low season rather than the high season rate that I was given but was discounted for being a repeat renter (which I guess I actually paid what they charge for standard season). I would have like to have compared the rental rate I paid to a house without a pool but could not find one.
I know some of you don't think that I am being reasonable. Yes I got a house with a pool to LOOK at but obviously since I paid for pool heat we also intended to swim in it. So I feel I am being reasonable, actually I feel I am being more than reasonable.

OP - you are being more than reasonable. You aren't asking them to comp the entire stay or jump through any other hoops.

Just wondering if anything has ever broken in your own homes. Who do you charge for that? It is reality that things breakdown and mechanical failures happen, penalizing the owner for not having an instant replacement is just amazing to me.
