we usually like to rent a car to get around even when on property, is anyone finding any deals? I am finding the weekly rates outrageous. When we were there in Oct we actually had a rental for 95$/ for a week, econmy size which works for us, now they are quoting anywhere form 285-400$!
If you know of any deals let me know, (airport pick up)
Thanks

The best rate I found for a minivan was thru Budget (8 days in Oct). $594.91 after taxes and fees, 1000 miles, but you have to pay with Discover. I got the codes off retailmenot. I'm still looking though. We have decided to fly instead of drive and I want to save as much as I can.

I was lucky to have booked back in March with Alamo (pick up at Orlando airport) and received a midsize SUV for 2 weeks for a grand total of $464US. That price includes a baby car seat and unlimited mileage. It goes to show you that booking early has it's advantages. We are arriving Sept 26. Keep trying all the different rental places, they might have some last minute deals.

Thanks for this link ...I have been all over the internet and the DIS boards looking for a good deal on a rental car. For whatever reason cars are over priced this summer, and I wanted to make sure whatever codes we used were legit too ...we booked a compact car with Avis from August 12-17th using this website and it came to $193.80 total, by far the cheapest we have been able to get our hands on! I think a standard car, was around $220 total as well, but its just 2 adults so a compact will work out fine for our needs!:thumbsup2

Thanks again for sharing that website ... you saved me alot of $$$$$!:cool1:

I read an article yesterday that said many car rental companies are reducing inventory, which makes for greater demand on their fleets, and has jacked up prices. I don't know if the article is accurate, but it sounds logical.

I'm just flabbergasted at how high the rates are this year compared to the last few years. I expected increases, but most of the rates I've been seeing are more than double the rates from last year.

It's like the rental agencies think they're selling electricity or gasoline!

Keep trying til the night before I think if there isn't enough of a demand by your travel date they will reduce them at the last minute. That is what happened to me last year save around 250 for 2 weeks.

It has been consistent pretty much for all of 2009. I've been using my employer-negotiated cap all year. In years past, they'd be about about 20% higher than market rate. This year, they put me about 10-20% under the market rate, depending.

If you go on to Avis' website they also offer a coupon cope for 35.00 off a weekly rental. The coupon code is MUWA003. This is taken from their website under specials if you want to look it up. You can modify your reservation and include the 35.00 coupon. It will show the same price but indicate it will subtract coupon at time of renting. This may help you save an additional 35.00 with avis.

The same techniques last year appear to not work this year. For example, if you try to make a reservation for something in the next week (within 7 days), the prices are still much higher than last year's rates and not much different if your reservation is 30+ days away.

We are going for 10 days in August and I was getting quotes for 4 to 5 hundred dollars. So what we are doing is we are arriving on Saturday and taking the ME to our hotel and then on Sunday morning I am picking up the car in Disney and returning to MCO and I got a rate of $256.00. Hope that helps. Michelle

What company did you get this rate from. I need a 9 day rental.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having sticker shock!!:scared1:

I think I will take the suggestion of a previous poster, take ME and book the car for less time- I really only need it for 3-4 days to visit family in different parts of the state.

I agree. We leave in 2 days and again the rates never dropped. We rented a car in Jan and May and no drops prior and paid twice what I paid last year. Now we leave on Saturday and not only is my rate twice last year's price, yesterday it jumped another $100 higher. I say, find a rate and booked it and hope it drops. The rate we are paying was high ($238 base per week before discounts and fees with a total of $225). I thought it was high, but now the same rental with the same codes is now $335. Now my high rate I booked several months ago is looking mighty good. (National)

Kreed ...thanks so much for the coupon code ...I will defiantely modify my resservation and add it on!

This rental car thing is so stressful anymore ...we are just spoiled by having a car to come and go as we please without waiting for a bus. We enjoy going off site for restaurants and things to not have a car, not to mention going to Publix for water and snacks at a much cheaper price ...

We just got back yesterday! I found a car rental for 6 nights through Advantage. You are shuttled to the rental place, about 10 minutes down the road from the airport. But, well worth the savings. We got the economy sized car for $193 (this includes all the taxes). I thought this was a good deal.

I actually have 2 on hold and will decide this week which one I am going to cancle. One is with ALamo for 262.31 and the other is with Dollar for 253.04 hope this helps. Michelle
