Rental Car While @WDW Poly

I am planning for our 2004 WDW/DCL vacation and need some advice on renting a car. In essence I have booked two vacations: (1) a 4 night pre-cruise stay at the Poly(with plans to visit downtown Orlando...Wonderworks, Ripley's) with a party of 4 and (2) a 7-night cruise after the WDW stay with a party of 3. I purchased tranfers from the hotel to the dock and from the dock to the airport. I figure I will purchase transfers(from Mears) to get the four of us (3 one-ways and 1 roundtrip ,for the one person who is not going on the cruise, from MCO to the Poly.

What I need help with is getting a rental car while staying at the Poly. We only want the car for the day so that we can hit a few places in downtown Orlando. If anyone has any sugesstions, I would be greatly appreciative. Note we are not leaving until August, so we have time.

I've never done it as we prefer to have the rental car the whole time but I know you can rent on Disney property itself. I think it's National (might be Alamo) that rents at the Car Care Center or whatever its called. Just south of the Polynesian on the main road. There's supposed to be a free shuttle to it.

Some of the other rental companies have desks at Swan or Dolphin or some of the DTD hotels. If you ask on the Transportation forum, you might get more help. Or check Mousesavers. She has lots of rental info.
