Rental Car Surcharge??

Approximately how much should I add on to my rental car quote for surcharges etc.? Also are there any companies that do include this in their quote? T.I.A. ~~

If you pick your car up from the airport, you will need to pay a 10.86% "concession fee". Florida tire and battery surcharge is $2.50 per day, Florida licencing fee is 0.41 per day and Florida state tax is 6%. There's a reason why Florida doesn't have an income tax .

And yes, most companties will quote without any taxes or fees. Ask to make sure.

I believe the tire and battery fee is 2.05 not 2.50
State taxcharge in Tampa is 6.75%(.75 local tax) and there is a consession fee of approx. 2.00 per day.
All states have these silly charges, not just FL.

Gail--Robinb probably made a typo on the tire and battery fee (you're right it is 2.05) but (for MCO) she is correct on the state tax and on the concession fee. The concession fee is at least 10% in Tampa. I'm not sure where you got the 2.00 /day concession fee. No, not all the states are as aggressive as FL in putting on all the extra fees.

Thanks everyone. From what I gather on the Dollar site, they have the 2.05 fee (surcharge plus tire & battery recycling) plus a .36 per day license recovery fee, but it lists the airport concession fee as 9.8%. Think I'll take a second look at National now (thanks Chuck S). ~~

Yup, it was a typo. I was reading off my National reservation. The tire fee is $2.05 per day, not $2.50.

Hi,
I figured it was a typo. A very easy one to do, btw.
As to the Tampa concession fee, I took my ressie and divided the amount by the days I was to be there, they never gave a percentage. They call it a " concessionaires' cost of doing business" and for 8 days on my ressie it will be 13.69 or 1.71125 per day. I rounded up. The tire and battery is .41 per day. and there is some charge, Fftxrsu, for .52 for the 8 days, which is .065 per day.
I did preface my comments saying that it was for Tampa.
And I did say approx. for the 2.00 per day. I figured if anyone wanted specific amounts they would ask.
Robin was totally correct (except for the typo) for Orlando. Her info is usually right on.

Gail--I wasn't doubting YOU paid about $2.00 a day for the concession fee but that isn't how the charge is calculated. The fee is a percentage (Alamo TPA airport access fee is 9.89%, National MCO is 10.86 I suggested assume around 10%, I was off by .11%)
I'm not being petty, someone renting a min-van, SUV, or not able to get a great discount will end up pay more than $2 /day
Other than a minor typo, Robin's numbers are correct.
