Rental Car Rates for pick up at LAX:

Hi ... your input would be much appreciated.

Just trying to get a feel of what the BEST (ie. LOWEST) WEEKLY rates people ever paid for their car rental for pick up & drop off at LAX (Los Angeles Airport).

Also, any tips on how to get the LOWEST rates? Which rental company did you use?

In particular, looking for these types of car rentals:

1) STANDARD (eg. Mitsubishi Galant or similar)
2) FULL (eg. Nissan Altima or similar)
3) MINI VAN (eg. Dodge Caravan or similar)

Thanks for your help!

I had actually asked a similar question not too long ago. My latest quote and reservation is with budget for 181 for June 13 afternoon to 22nd am. I used costco. this has been the best deal I have yet to see and glad I made the reservation. Today it is up by 58$.its fo a toyo corolla or similar.
I check sometime daily to find the best deals. Check mousesavers.com for discount codes.

I don't know what the rates are now but I know that the taxes and airport fees can be extremely high. Make sure you know up front.

You had mentioned this before on the thread that I had posted so I called budget and they told me that my quote is the price I will pay. So, I'll be jumping up and down if it is not the same price.

Option one is compare booking direct with the "deal" sites...if the "deal" sites are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper then book that.

Option two is find the cheapest option booking direct with a car company with no cancellation penalties and book it NOW. You can use a site like Kayak or Orbitz for comparison then go direct to the rental company to book...then check every week or so as you get closer, the rates change daily based on availability and types of cars they have and if a better price or car pops up, rebook that and cancel original reservation.

I have literally cut my price in half standing in the airport rental facility day of pickup by booking a new car on my phone and cancelling my original reservation...but sometimes the prices go up and I have the best price already locked.

I used costco

EVERYONE ... thanks for the info. Pls keep them coming!

A question re: booking through Costco. I'm from Canada and we don't have the car rental option on our Canadian Costco site. When I checked the car rentals on the USA Costco site the prices were no where near as low as the rates you got.

Do I need to enter my Costco membership number anywhere on the USA Costco site in order to get lower quotes OR are the rates posted what Costco members get?

Tks again for your help!

On our trip in March, we paid $157 (all taxes and fees included) for a week long rental on a full size from Budget (via Costco's website in the US). Rates on rental cars, however, vary significantly week over week, depending on supply/demand. The lowest price for any given week could easily be double that.

Also, the closer you get (if demand remains low), the lower the price will go. My first reservation for our trip (which I cancelled in favor of a lower price) was close to $300....same car, same week, same everything.

I don't need to be logged in to see the rates. (Just for grins, I entered a week long random set of dates for mid June and found $183 for a week long rental, this time Avis was lowest). However, to book the rate, I need to be logged in.

We're just leaving SoCal this morning via LAX; we always rent a car and always use Expedia or Travelocity to search for the best rates. (Once I've searched I also sometimes go to the rental car agencies direct website to see if I can get it there cheaper).

This time we ended up with a mis-sized SUV (Toyota Rav 4) from Dollar for $23 US/day for 4 days including fees? WARNING: The line up at the rental car place was like nothing I've ever seen before:scared1:. It took us over 2 hours to get out of there (arrived at 9:30 on Friday night). I recommend once toy've picked the company you're going with that you join their loyalty program on-line before you leave home so you can use the "preferred customer" line when picking up. Please also be aware that all LAX rental agencies are off-site away from the airport and you will have to take a shuttle there and back when you drop off. Allow enough time for that.

Thanks for reminding me to do this :)

Just got our Avis membership. I had pricelined a name your own bid and won with Avis; I thought there might be a runaround with the priceline confirmation number but Avis recognized it immediately. Sure hope this helps up at LAX.
And your 23 a day w taxes for a Rav4 was awesome!

I discovered that I can save $150+ by not renting from LAX and renting instead from the rental agency office right near Disneyland. Those airport fees are insane.

But, that means taking a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, instead of driving the rental car

The best I ever got out of LAX was $100 for 10 days in a full size car. That was in 2011. Anymore if it around $20 per day including taxes for a full size vehicle, I call it good enough.

Well, it's a good thing SOMETHING was awesome about that experience! :lmao: Holy Cow I could not believe that wait. We've rented cars more than a dozen times in the past few years and have never, ever encountered anything like it. Not exaggerating - between the line up and the road work/traffic back up on the I-5 (even after midnight), it took us longer to get from LAX to Anaheim than it did to fly from Calgary!

THANKS EVERYONE for their info. Appreciate it!

Just wondering 'cuz I'm scared now ... how much time should I schedule in for the shuttle between LAX & Car Rental company that's off site from LAX?

Although extremely annoying when there's a long wait ... picking up is not as critical as the RETURN TIME of the vehicle.

Need to ensure that we get to LAX from Car Rental company so we don't miss our flight out of LAX. How much time do you think we need for the shuttle etc.?

Also ... noted as per your previous post ... get Loyalty number so we can go to Members counter and, hopefully, shorten our wait!

Insane! Can't believe the waits!

Tks!
