Rental Car or Town Car Service

So it's our first time in Florida and we are going to WDW, US, and Discovery Cove. We are staying at the Poly but have a few ADR's at other Deluxe Resorts or DTD. We are also planning on hitting up the water parks. We had originally planned to use a towncar service and taxi's for water parks etc. but we can rent a car for almost the same price. I'm not worried about the traffic, but I am concerned about getting lost on Disney property. We don't have a GPS but we do have Iphone 3GS which has a pretty reliable instant directions. So my questions are:

1.) Just towncar it and not worry about getting around by ourselves since it's our first trip?
2.) Rent a car and use signs, maps and iphone.
3.) Splurge and buy a GPS unit to help us navigate.

Any thoughts or personal experience is much appreciated and welcomed:)

I always rent a car, I have no patience for onsite transportation, plus in almost all cases it is quicker to use a car to navigate between parks/resorts with your own vehicle.

You can rent a GPS from most rental agencies, or you can buy one, they're pretty cheap now, although for the most part, navigating between parks is pretty easy, resorts isn't too bad, you just have to know the general area they are located (ie. EPCOT Area Resorts, MK Area Resorts, etc.).

This would be my choice. In fact, this is exactly what my family has done during our 10 trips to WDW. IMHO, WDW does a fabulous job with their transportation services. I think there are trade-offs no matter what you do. I like being dropped of right near the park entrance and not having to park and shuttle in. I like having someone else do the driving and I prefer having someone else do it when I am not as familiar with my surroundings. I like having my towncar driver there with my families name on it and whisking us off to our resort without having to deal with the hassle of going to the rental car area to pick up transportation. I am never in a hurry to get anywhere because I am on vacation, so I don't care it may take a bit longer to get to the parks than if I drove myself. I don't mind having to do a transfer if I am going resort to resort for dinner either because, as I already said, I am in no hurry to get anywhere because I am on vacation.

It's a personal choice. Others, like the poster above, will tell you they cannot live without access to a rental car. To each his own.
