Can you rent a car from the airport and then take ME back to the airport? Didn't know if ME was a round trip deal or not.

Yes.

Make your DME reservation (at your resort) at least two days in advance of when you want to take the DME bus back to the airport.

Yes, I've done that a few times. Call Disney and have them add ME - whichever way you need to your reservation. Just be sure that the CM completely understands that you only need the one leg and that you won't need round-trip.

They screwed ours up last year. It took us an HOUR to check in for the return ME and get our boarding passes printed. We very nearly missed our ME bus as we still had to go back to our room, get the kids together, and pick something up at Port Royale (package sent to CBR from DTD).

Actually your boarding passes are printed at RAC. That is the Airline Check-in. ME is totally different and has nothing to do with RAC.

While an hour is excessive at RAC, not impractical especially if the computers go down or you get there at a time (like around 8:00 to 9:00 am), when it is the busiest). Second busiest time is around 11:00 am, which is normally check-out time.

We had an issue at POR this past year when I left because they had moved the RAC desk outside and it was about 35 degrees out that morning. The computers were running very, very, very slowly due to the cold. I was the third person in line at 7:00 am and it took about 20 minutes. My ME time was at 3:45 pm.

You basically cut it too close between RAC and ME, including having to go all the way back to your room to get the rest of your things.

So making an ME reservation when you get to the resort has nothing to do with your situation. He is right to wait until he arrives at his resort and makes a ressie through the concierge desk. He won't need the yellow luggage tags and both coupons; just the coupon to get home.
