I asked this question over in the transportaton board, but I thought I'd ask you experts too.

My in-laws will be joining us in WDW in July. My MIL needs an ECV because of knee problems. My FIL will need one because he will be recovering from chemotherapy and will tire easily. They have both rented ECVs from Care Medical in the past. The last time they had 2 ECVs we removed the back seat of the minivan and popped the ECVs in with no problem. Now, we can no longer remove the back seat and getting one ECV in is a treat.

Can anyone recommend what I can do to get 2 ECVs in 1 car? Thanks!

I knew this question had been asked before, so I did a search. The only suggestions people had were to stay on site and use the buses or to rent a van. No one responded about how 2 would fit.
I think I responded to your post on the Transportation Board.

This past February we had a total of six people (four adults (one with a leg cast) and two teenage girls), two of whom had ECVs. It was handy that we had adjoining 1st floor rooms at CBR, with mine right next to the handicapped parking space. I had rented a Buick Park Avenue from National and try as we could, there was no way to get both ECVs into the trunk. I went (with my ECV) to the National location on WDW and they let me try every vehicle in the place, including a Cadillac. .

There was no car that could handle two. I found that a couple of the SUVs could easily handle both. However, they only had seating for five, so that was not an option for us. Again, the minivans would have handled two with the back seat out (which National did not want to do), but again with the seat out they would only seat five. We were told that there were 15-passenger vans available at the airport, but the cost would be more than double what I was paying for the Buick.

My condition is such that I cannot do prolonged walking or standing, but usually I can get around for a while without the ECV. Obviously the other person absolutely needed the ECV (or crutches). What we ended up doing was if we were going somewhere where not much walking or standing would be required (such as to dinner) we would take the other person's ECV and all of us would pile into the car. If we were going to where both of us needed the ECVs, I would drive with mine while at least two people from the other family would take a bus. Since they would not have to break down and then set up, while I had to, usually we were able to meet up at close to the same time.

If you have five or fewer people, the workable option would be either an SUV or a minivan with the back seat out. If one of the two people does not have a full-time requirement for the ECV, then what we did would work. Otherwise you may have to get two cars. One thing about getting an SUV or minvan, when you make the reservation, tell the person on the phone there is a medical necessity and you may be able to get a car rate for the bigger vehicle.
