Rental car discounts?

My friend is flying from California to Boston in June and has done absolutely no research. She plans to rent a car at Logan.

Does anyone have any hints on getting bargains on rental cars? I fear she will show up at the airport rental desks and wing it, and end up paying several hundred dollars that she really can't afford.

Thanks - she may have Costco. I'll have her check out carrentalsavers.com and flyertalk.com, which I had never heard of. I'll also look for codes for Alamo - we've gotten some last minute steals, and becoming an Alamo Insider is free.

I'll check out the Transportation board for June codes, but they are pretty mean over there and I like to be prepared before I venture in. (No such fears here on the Budget board- you guys are great!)

Is she using the car to leave Boston? She definitely doesn't want a car if she is staying in Boston. Parking rates are crazy there. You are better off riding the T.
