Going to San Francisco then to Disneyland, flying into SFO and departing from LAX in June. Anybody find any rental car deals?

I've learned how to get great deals in FL from fellow DIS boarders but finding a deal in California is a whole different story. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm posting here because I did not see a transportation board on the Disneyland boards. :goodvibes

As San Francisco and Los Angeles/Southern CA are two distinct markets, you may have to deal with a drop-off fee.

The key in this case is to contact the nation's car rental companies and see if they will waive that fee for you...

Use something like Kayak. You want to find out, for your dates, which agency is looking to move cars from SFO to LAX. Once you find a good rate plug in your discount codes and see if you can fine tune the rate.

Some agencies will charge a drop charge. Others will limit your free miles. Others might just black out most discounts. You need to do your homework.

Don't expect to see the kind of rates we get in Florida.

Also try sites like travelocity. Sometimes they have special rates with reduced drop charges.

Many thanks for the advice. I have the car rental for a WDW trip down to a science. This is a whole new ballgame for us this time.

I appreciate the suggestions and now have to do my homework.

Thank You!

Another suggestion. When checking select all car types. The key will be finding an agency that wants to move a car from SFO to LAX for your dates. You may get a great deal on a car larger (or smaller) then you'd normally rent.

I was able to find a minivan for 10 days for $1200 from Dollar with a pickup at SFO and dropoff at LAX for now. Most companies don't have codes going out to June yet. Most expire in mid April.

Was wondering if anyone found any companies that waive the drop off fee. I've read quite a few people have had this happen in the past but haven't been able to find it yet for June. The Dollar deal is a CITY SPECIAL code. I know this is very high but so far believe it or not, it is the best I could find.

I didn't see this mentioned before but I did this trip a couple years ago. It was less expensive to take a shuttle to our hotel in SF and pick up the car when we were leaving SF a couple blocks from our hotel. Parking in SF is expensive public transportation very easy. Depending on how long you will be in SF it may work out cheaper to not have a car in SF.
