Please help us choose. We are stuck between a full size car and a 4 door Jeep. I initially thought the Jeep would be awesome just for the cool factor, but my husband thinks the car might be more comfortable. Has anyone rented a Jeep in Hawaii? If so, what was your experience? Thanks!!! We leave tomorrow.

I have not ridden in a jeep in years. But unless you are doing gravel or dirt roads, I doubt a jeep would be needed for Oahu. It would look cool, if it was one where the top comes off, but then if it rains, you have to stop and put the top back on. And then nothing is secure in the vehicle if it's all open. And last of all you sure could get sunburned riding in an open jeep.

I sounds like I would prefer the car or even a regular SUV.

We just rented a 4-door Jeep in May and really enjoyed it. We got a hard top so only the front panels came off the roof. We didn't plan to do any off-roading...we just wanted something different. With the top off and the windows down, it was great! We got caught in the rain once, but we were able to pull over quickly and put the panels back in.

This!

We always try and rent jeeps while in HI. Most of them have the hard top and the panels come off (and on) rather easily. Wear a hat, put on suntan lotion, and enjoy the "cool factor"!

My DH used to own a jeep - definitely a rougher ride than in a car and nothing is secure in it since the doors are removable. Also more limited luggage space depending on how many of you there are….

If its just you two I hope you went for the jeep! Nothing like riding up the North Shore with your hair blowing back. But with any more people you would have absolutely zero space for luggage or anything.

I will say the the 4-door Jeep had a lot more room than I imagined. There were 4 of us (two kids) and we had 2 large bags and 3 carry-ons. They all fit easily in the back. The girls said they had plenty of room in the back seat, too.
