Hi,

We are considering Disney Vacation Club. Do you think it is a good idea to rent points to get the feel of Disney Vacation Club? What sites to you go to rent? As anybody done this before they bought into Disney Vacation Club?

Thanks

That is what we did. We rented points here on this website. Once my wife and daughter stayed at Animal Kingdom - they decided that is where they want to own. I have liked all that I have stayed at, but have only stayed at 4. People have also rented at David's, and while it is a little more expensive then renting off of the for rent board here, it is viewed as a little safer (though I have not had any problems renting from this website).

Good luck!

I used to suggest renting first, now I suggest that buying a SSR small contract might be a better strategy. Buy SSR, use it to stay at different resorts over the next few years, experience 7 month booking.

After a couple of stays at each resort, you will know which is your favorite(s), if DVC is for you, how DVC works, and which resort you want to really buy as a home resort.

You can either sell SSR, use it for some stays or rent reservations.

I think David's was the gateway drug for us. Once Vgf was announced and I realized we could afford it, it was all down hill (or uphill) from there.

I would.

DVC rooms aren't quite like regular hotel rooms, and a stay would help you make sure that you have some idea of what the difference will really mean to you. Its one thing to come on this board and hear other people say they like not having daily housekeeping, or they don't mind the less aggressive refurb schedule, and that the pullout beds are fine, but those things may in fact, make a difference to you. You might also, if you are making reservations seven months or less out, get a first hand feel for availability.

You may also determine that you like DVC rooms, but that tying up that much cash is a big deal, where renting worked fine for you and decide to keep renting (if I were buying now, I'd be very tempted to rent rather than buy).
