I have points that I am not going to use and would like to rent. However, the reputable sites that have been recommended only seem to pay with paypal and I do not want to use them. Is there any other reputable and safe way that I could unload these points and get paid by money order or some other safe way?

I rented points for a guy and he made the reservation and I first class mailed him a check and it seemed to work well for both of us, he didn't have to deal with PayPal fees and I was able to use a check which I felt better about, so I'm sure people would be willing to mail a check after you make the ressie

For my last transaction my renter was willing to use Amazon Payments, which does not charge fees for transactions up to $1000. They also deliver the money electronically very quickly to my account (about 2 business days). Paypal fees are exorbitant.

Thanks for the fast replies. It sounds like I have to rent them directly then, I was hoping to use a company for less risk. I guess as the seller, I am not inheriting a ton of risk. Is this the appropriate place to place my points for rent? I may also borrow from the future year to rent 375 points as I will likely not be using any until 2015 myself.

PayPal isn't always that seller friendly. And I didn't think PayPal could be used for timeshare rentals anyway.

If I ever needed to rent my points, I would go through a broker like David's or Timeshare Store. They handle the money.

I have a paypal merchant account, it might be different for personal ones, but i've used it for DVC rental purposes (both as renter and rentee) without issue. Last i looked my fee was 2.9% with a $.30 per transacton fee or less than $30 per $1,000. Certainly easy enough to work the fee into the $ per point price of the rental.

Look for a 'verified' member who has been vetted by paypal via extra security checks. No absolute guarantees but it's helpful tool for some piece of mind for larger transactions and it exhibits a track record that participants have done at least $2,000 in business with paypal.

Us too....we tried using Paypal once and never again. So much hassel and trouble for something that should be fairly simple.

I would use daves as well, but the poster doesnt want to use paypal for whatever reason and dave only uses paypal, so he is looking for another avenues, of which sorry I dont have.
Not sure how dave uses paypal fees, but will be trying him out soon with the loaded contract im buying but cant use the points

I won't use Paypal either so I would assume David's is out. I will pay via them (reluctantly) but I REFUSE to give them access to any of my bank accounts etc.
(And if any of you think PayPal is 'protecting' you, you may discover the only "Fantasyland" is NOT in the Magic Kingdom LOL!)

if you think that your own bank is safer, then welcome to your own Fantasyland, anything online is equally exposed. I bank online all the time, my bank in fact doesnt even have 1 branch, so you just have keep an eye on your accounts. Think how safe everyone who trusted Madoff thought.

Thanks for all the kind comments regarding my service. I strive to provide an extremely positive experience for both our members and our guests.

I use PayPal only for payment to members. There are no fees to the member to collect monies from the guest or to receive funds from us as those are absorbed by me. The reason I use PayPal for payments to members is simple; the funds are in your account immediately. No "check is in the mail" or "it must have gotten lost" (which can happen) excuses. Once the deal is consummated, the member has the first part immediately. On check in day, the member has the balance of funds immediately. It is, without a doubt, the fastest and most reliable way to transfer funds. PayPal also works very close with me to protect the interest of my guests and me against any possible unpleasant situations.

In the 7 years I have been doing this and the thousands of members I have worked with, there has never been 1 incident with PayPal.

I certainly respect the OP's position and wish we were in a position to help. All the best to everyone in the New Year.

I was waiting for Dave to post, thanks, now if we need to rent from you, do you accept other forms of payments?

I won't let Paypal touch my bank.

However, let's go over the protection you get with PayPal vs. a credit card.

Friend of mine checked into a rental unit in S. Florida. Place was FILITHY, had rats running around, the tub was black with dirt etc... Paypal told her "we called the owner, he claims it was fine and you can't get any money back" Luckily she had paid PayPal via an Amex. Amex gave her the money back and fought with PayPal (no idea who one) but if she had let PayPal touch her bank account directly... cash would have been GONE!

In addition, with PayPal if the seller empties his/her account prior to you filing the dispute... too bad, if PayPal can't get the money back they won't be using any of THIER PROFITS to gurantee you happiness! I have read and had way too many bad expereinces to allow PayPal any access to any of my information/accounts ever again.

Not to mention that when I did have an account it had RANDOM charges on it leaving me to have severe questions on PayPal's "security" ((No, I don't have a Skype account, No I didn't buy anything from Amazon and have it sent to Africa...and so on LOL!)

And finally my bank is FDIC insured... Madoff was NOT a bank:rotfl2:

As for David's assurance that you can have the money immediately. They still have some of my money. I made the error of closing the bank account and "since you no longer have the account you can't have the cash" It was only $20 so I quit fighting but.... good luck if you have an issue IMHO!

Orange I'm sorry youve had such a bad experience with paypal, but even as you said, link it to your amex if you want to have that extra level of security.
I know that both my VIsa and MC would not have given back my money for that case. I dont have Amex so cant comment on them.
As far as paypal, i do have it linked to one account, I dont leave anything in paypal, transfer from the one account right into my other account. This is not because im worried about paypal, but because I deal both in US and CAN funds and am cutting down on the exchange rates.
With the millions of people who use paypal, if it were that bad, they wouldnt be in business still.
The way I look at it, is it like by debit card for the internet, with the handy tool of having money being directed both ways.
:confused3 best of luck with what ever avenue you use

I have to agree about Paypal, they are great for convenience but as with OCC, they are horrible when you truly have a legitimate issue. Their stance is, that it isn't their problem.

Also if you have problems they pretty much have themselves covered by their guidelines that say:

Besides the direct sale of real property, we also dont allow transactions that involve:

Timeshare transactions -- offers to buy, sell, or rent rights to the periodic use of a property. A timeshare is real estate that is jointly owned by people who share the right to use the property and take turns using it.

I agree with all the rants here against Paypal. When I rent, I really try not to use it unless people insist, and then I only agree if I really feel comfortable about the renter himself.

Paypal will not help solve the problem, but they will hold up the release of money while they are "investigating." It's just to much hassle to be worth it especially when there other forms of payment (like Amazon Payments, or a good old fashioned check if you have time).

I wish the "norm" on the Rent/Trade boards would move away from Paypal as the payment method of first choice.

Based on the number of posts that the OP has, the only option may be Dave's or similar broker. I don't believe she/he will be able to rent on the DIS.

My $.02.
