What is a realistic taxi cab price in LV? I'm talking close distances, like one end of the strip to the other. I am debating whether or not to rent a car on my trip in October...

Btw, I am staying at a time share on Tropicana, so I won't be on the strip. It is very close, but not enough to walk. There is a shuttle at the time share, but I don't know what the schedule is like.

I personally like renting a car and having that flexibility. Cabs can get expensive because of traffic. We took a cab from MGM back to the Venetian and it was $15. All the hotels have free self parking and seeing that you are alredy off the strip I'd rent a car for the $15/day. I also like to hit the outlets to shop and having a car makes it easy.

There's the Deuce bus, which is , I think, hop-on and hop-off all day and runs up and down the strip, for $5 day pass.

Cabs depend on how slow the traffic is, Saturday night on the strip can be murder.

There is plenty to see and visit within walking distance of the Tropicana, and cars are pretty cheap(parking is free everywhere). Vegas driving is getting kinda hectic and horn-honky so take that into consideration. Cab is maybe $15 to your hotel, $15 to the end of the strip, $20 to downtown (light show, classic casinos, etc).

Red Rock Canyon is a great afternoon trip, and so is Lake Mead/ Hoover Dam, or Valley of Fire. If you like to get out and explore, rent a car.
