I will be closing around 8/1 on new purchase at BWV of 375 points with a Dec 04 Use year (through DVC) and do not plan on taking a trip until Christmas (too busy). I was told I could bank only 1/2 of 375 points from 04 (What are the bank rules?) or rent (How does that work?)

Thanks

It's too bad the current owner didn't bank them for you. That would have made a lot of sense.

The banking deadlines are; 100% of the points can be banked in the first 6 months of the use year, so the owner could have done that by the end of May. 50% by the end of 9 months (August 31 for you) and 25% by 10 months (September 30 for you).

An alternative to renting the points you may lose would be to deposit them with Interval International. That would give you 2 years to use them in the World Passport Collection.

Good luck.

Tell your guide to ask their manager if they will give you an exception for this purchase to bank the points. There have been exceptions before mentioned on this board but I am not aware of the particulars.

The current owner is DVC.

As suggested, see if your DVC guide can assist with this and get approval to bank all of the points. If they are unable to help, bank what you can and try renting the rest (or see about a deposit for the World Passport Collection).

Good luck!

As another suggestion if DVC does not give you the answer you want, bank the points that you can right away and then offer the rest on the rent/trade board. If you don't want to go through the hassle of renting then offer the total number of points as a package deal that you would be willing to transfer for like $9 or $10 per point. I bet you'll get some takers and all you have to do is get their name and member number then make a call to the DVC reservation system and have them transfer the points. Most people make the payment 1st before the transfer. And that's it. DVC may ask you to fax a written authorization but sometimes they don't. The money you make can pay for the Maint. Fees for next year and a few days at the park.

MS now has a new rule that if you are buying new points from Disney directly, they waive the banking window.

If the advisor tells you that you missed the banking window, just ask them to check or ask to speak to a supervisor. I just banked all my points under this new rule.

Best of luck!!!

That is very good news and makes a lot of sense considering they obviously don't bank the points for members who are buying what is essentially a resale contract from them.
