Is it easy to rent an ECV spontaneously while at the parks? My DW will be about 10 weeks pregnant and we're not sure how much walking she'll be able to do (she gets quite sick while pregnant). Any tips would be appreciated. TIA

My last trip my DM hurt her back a few days before the trip so we decided to rent one from an outside vendorat the last minute after we got to the hotel. We went to concierge and they directed us to go to the luggage porters. They had a couple of companies that they reccomended. I can't recall the one we went with but they went out of their way to bring one to us even though they were getting ready to close for the day.

I was told originally, that many offsite places need 24hours - if they aren't sold out. But it may well be that some can deliver in less time. Buena Vista is located onDisney property - but they are far from the only one - however, if you are staying inthe Boardwalk area, they have a place right there. Otherwise, concierge/bell services is a good place to ask.

I don't know for sure about renting onsite, but teh number of scooters they have onsite is limited, and they do run out. Also, the Disney ones are larger 4wheeled models. They have to be sturdy for guests of all sizes, but scooters also come ina three wheel style that is easier, perhaps, to steer.

I'm no expert, this is only babout what I know. Try asking onthe disabilities section of the DIS. They have a thread sticky that lists a number of companies - and I kow there are even more than they list.

Oh, one more thing, the WDW ones don't come out fo the parks- probably the bit of walking your wife will most want one for if she wants a scooter. They also run, I think $45 per day. Offsite ones are less money.

ok thanks. maybe this thread should be moved over to the disAbilities sub-forum.

I would suggest going over to the disABILITIES Forum. One of the first threads is the disABILITIES FAQs. On Post #2 we have a lot of information for people with mobility/stamina situations and wheelchair and/or ECV (scooter) rentals, including off-site companies which people have used and reported good results. To get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs from here just click on the link in my signature.

thank you!

I am also interested in this question. I will be 8/9 weeks pregnant on our trip in 18 days. I already have a high risk pregnancy, so I'm unsure of myself. I go to the doctor next Monday and will see if I have any limitations. I thought about renting a wheelchair... so I can walk some or ride. I am curious to how much the ECV or wheelchair cost? Congrats to you and your wife on the pregnancy!!! We are due in July with baby #3!

My MIL's ankle and lower leg swelled up to the size of a watermelon while we were at WDW (due to a shattered ankle several years ago). She called one of the ECV places in the late afternoon, and they had an ECV delivered to her resort the next morning which she rented for the rest of the week. From her checking out her options, I know that the parks have a limited number for rent; however, they are often all gone by early morning. She was told if that was what she wanted to do, she would need to be in line at park opening every morning to try to be sure she got one. I wouldn't count on being able to rent one in the parks in the late afternoon.

Thank you! And congrats to you as well!

This is what I was afraid of, but thank you.

I have a really bad knee, which I recently re-injured and I rent my ECV from Walker Mobility. They have the best prices and if you are arriving in the afternoon, they only charge you for half a day and if you leave in the morning, again they only charge for half a day. I haven't found any others that are willing to do that.

I am not a doctor but is prolong sitting kind of bad for pregnant women, I mean doesn't it creates more pressure on a baby? And I think regular chair maybe just better in this situation, she will be able to walk from time to time and I think ECV does those rough stops as well.

I agree with the previous poster. She's not 9 months pregnant in the dead of summer. I think frequent breaks are good. There are plenty of places to stop and sit and once you get on the rides you are sitting as well.

like I said, she'll only be 10 weeks when we're there. She's been through 2 pregnancies and both times she has been really sick the duration of both pregnancies. I'm not too worried, I don't think she'll have to get an ECV and will probably be fine with frequent breaks, I just want to be prepared and know my options.

Has she talked to her dr. about medication? The only way a friend of mine was able to make it through her second pregnancy was with a prescription nausea medication. Those little pills were EXPENSIVE-like $10 a pill, but they did the trick.

yea, she'll be on a few different kinds for nausea and heartburn. My job is to make sure she takes them at correct intervals and has snacks at regular intervals as well.

You will be able to rent it at any park, I think it is $10 for regular and $45 for ECV, I maybe couple of $$ off but you got the idea. But remember they rent them at the beg. of the park, so if you feel she may get dizzy and might need one later, you beter get one as you enter the park. I hope you rent a car because if you will not have EVC outside the park, you will have to wait in regular line for bus and in the evenings it can be quiet long and she is not guaranteed a seat esp. at 10 weeks where nothing is shown yet.

we'll be driving to and from all the parks, so no worries about bus transpo. she definitely knows her limits. I think she'll be fine as long as we take good breaks in the afternoons (which we planned on doing anyways with a 4 and 1 year old). thanks for your response.

I just thought of this thread because there was an announcement of prices going up at WDW on scooters. Perhaps offsite companies will raise prices as well - or maybe they are even more of a better option now!

And Yikes! Sometimes my typing is really bad! I make WAAAAYYY too many typos!

You should hopefully be able to get at least a wheelchair. I had to cancel our trip for next month because I've been put on bedrest due to complications in my pregnancy. Long story short, I've been told I have a 25% chance of carrying to term, even with the bedrest. I would recommend she try Zofran for the nausea if her doc is willing to prescribe it, it works wonders for me when I'm actually able to keep it down.

yea, she took Zofran during her first 2 pregnancies, its only drawback is the price. Our insurance only covers so much at a time, it can be a pain. I'm so sorry to read about your bedrest! I pray nothing but the best for you!
