I would suggest going over to the disABILITIES Forum. One of the first threads is the disABILITIES FAQs. On Post #2 we have a lot of information for people with mobility/stamina situations and wheelchair and/or ECV (scooter) rentals, including off-site companies which people have used and reported good results. To get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs from here just click on the link in my signature.
I am also interested in this question. I will be 8/9 weeks pregnant on our trip in 18 days. I already have a high risk pregnancy, so I'm unsure of myself. I go to the doctor next Monday and will see if I have any limitations. I thought about renting a wheelchair... so I can walk some or ride. I am curious to how much the ECV or wheelchair cost? Congrats to you and your wife on the pregnancy!!! We are due in July with baby #3!
My MIL's ankle and lower leg swelled up to the size of a watermelon while we were at WDW (due to a shattered ankle several years ago). She called one of the ECV places in the late afternoon, and they had an ECV delivered to her resort the next morning which she rented for the rest of the week. From her checking out her options, I know that the parks have a limited number for rent; however, they are often all gone by early morning. She was told if that was what she wanted to do, she would need to be in line at park opening every morning to try to be sure she got one. I wouldn't count on being able to rent one in the parks in the late afternoon.
Is it easy to rent an ECV spontaneously while at the parks? My DW will be about 10 weeks pregnant and we're not sure how much walking she'll be able to do (she gets quite sick while pregnant). Any tips would be appreciated. TIA
like I said, she'll only be 10 weeks when we're there. She's been through 2 pregnancies and both times she has been really sick the duration of both pregnancies. I'm not too worried, I don't think she'll have to get an ECV and will probably be fine with frequent breaks, I just want to be prepared and know my options.
Has she talked to her dr. about medication? The only way a friend of mine was able to make it through her second pregnancy was with a prescription nausea medication. Those little pills were EXPENSIVE-like $10 a pill, but they did the trick.
You will be able to rent it at any park, I think it is $10 for regular and $45 for ECV, I maybe couple of $$ off but you got the idea. But remember they rent them at the beg. of the park, so if you feel she may get dizzy and might need one later, you beter get one as you enter the park. I hope you rent a car because if you will not have EVC outside the park, you will have to wait in regular line for bus and in the evenings it can be quiet long and she is not guaranteed a seat esp. at 10 weeks where nothing is shown yet.like I said, she'll only be 10 weeks when we're there. You should hopefully be able to get at least a wheelchair. I had to cancel our trip for next month because I've been put on bedrest due to complications in my pregnancy. Long story short, I've been told I have a 25% chance of carrying to term, even with the bedrest. I would recommend she try Zofran for the nausea if her doc is willing to prescribe it, it works wonders for me when I'm actually able to keep it down.
