We've always used the bus system and been very pleased with it. We rented a car once with just DH and I and it sat in the parking lot for the entire week. We used the busses last time too with our 17mo and all his 'stuff' and stroller. We are panning another trip next year and will hopefully have a new addition. I'm sure we'll have a double stroller since the oldest will just be 3.

How do you guys get about. Bus w/ a double stroller and 2 kids (3yr and 7mo) or rent a car?? How do you get from parking lots to epcot/MGM/animal kingdom??

We'd be staying at MK so we can do the boat for that.

Thanks

We last traveled with a 1 and 4 year old, and even though Disney bus transportation is efficient, we still used our rental minivan alot! Our 1 year old was generally much more soothed by riding in the stroller, on the way to the car in the parking lot, than waiting and standing still for a bus to show up. Most times, our plan was to get up and out early, so we were able to park fairly close at the parks. (The walk was really short at Epcot and Animal Kingdom... can't remember MGM) In the evenings, we tended to take the busses more.

We had a side-by-side double stroller with us, and it was really a pain to get on the busses in the mornings when it was crowded.

From the WL, we were able to roll the stroller right onto the boat, so going to MK should be okay.

I'm another fan of having a car; being able to set your own timetable for things makes it well worth it.
If you want to get from one park to another for a character meal, or another PS, you don't have to add an exrat 45 minutes on in case of a full or just missed bus.

My family doesn't like the buses, too many of them have passed us by at the end of the day; we always buy a foam cooler, and leave snacks and drinks in the car; on the way out you can cool the car down, have a drink or a snack outside until it's cool, then hop in and still beat the bus back to your hotel.

Another vote for using your own car. It is much more convenient to be able to come and go as you please and not have to wait for Disney transport or cram in with everyone else.

Another consideration, buses have no car seats or seat belts. That can be pretty dangerous, especially for the little ones. I've seen quite a few kids hurt over the years when the bus stopped suddenly or made a sharp turn.

Keep in mind that buses don't go everywhere directly. For example, if you are staying at one hotel and want to get to another, you need to take a bus to a park and switch buses or to DTD and switch buses. That can take an hour to do what would be a 10 minute car ride.
