Would you recommend one of those no-contract phones for us? We'll be coming from Canada with our no frills, super basic phone and plan. I want to access the wait apps and to be able to post a quick FB update, like a photo of a kid meeting a special character or the start of a parade or something.
I have a friend who lives in OC and has APs, and he posts cute FB updates like that whenever he visits DLR with his sons.

If you want to spend $190 for a smartphone, or if you have one that will work with one of these plans, then yes, get a no contract, monthly plan.

I got this phone (Samsung Exhibit II) from Amazon.

We've had IPod Touches for years around here. I like the Android better. Maybe because it is SO Google and Amazon friendly.

Here is the link to the T-Mobile prepaid and no contract plans. If you don't talk much, or need a family plan, this is the way to go. Boost or other providers may fit your needs better, so shop around.

Another Android user here, thanks for the heads up about the app!

Btw, for wait times, if you don't want to pay for an app, MouseWait is still accurate enough for at least my purposes. Has lots of little tidbits of neat/sometimes useful info too. Note though, using it can rack up data pretty quickly.

Thanks. I think I'll play with it on wifi at home to get the feel of it and play with it there a bit.

If you don't have a smartphone at all, I would recommend going through craigslist and look for one. Craigslist is great for cells cause people are always upgrading so you get newish phones for a discount. For budget android smartphones I personally like the Optimus T and you can often find used around $50 and it works with T-Mobile.

T-mobile prepaid is great, if you only need a few days you can get their "Pay by the day" $2/day unlimited voice/text/data for edge speed or $3/day for 4g

Just buy a T-mobile SIM card ($1.99) and you can activate it with one of these plans and put in $10 or $20 (enough to cover the number of days youll use) prepaid card. The time does expire, but you don't use it up unless you use that phone that day. We did this last time and put in $10 for 5 days we were there cause we don't have data.

This.

Maybe a friend would even loan you an old phone for a short trip... you could put your sim in it and do the pay-by-the-day plan.

This sounds like a great plan. I would recommend getting the 4G version though, generally Edge data speeds are too slow to do anything super useful with, in my opinion/experience. E.g., if you were walking fairly briskly you probably could reach the ride you wanted to check the wait time for before your phone loads said time up on Edge (unless the ride were like all the way across the park, and even then depending on service coverage and other factors you might get there first).
