just booked airline tickets !!
told the kiddies today they will be in disney
for winter break!!

however, i am upset by the $$ of the car
rentals, we aren't looking for anything fancy
i don't even want a mini van, am i doing something
wrong because the $$ i am getting are in the high
$300-400???

can someone help me please?????

Oh boo...Pres Week. Well, I have 2/18-2/25--rented at Alamo, but that was months ago. I used Walmart code 430710, the $15 online Alamo coupon that's on their website and the pre pay option and my total was around $140 or $150 (i can't remember right now)

I think you may have waited too late! I would book something now and keep looking.

The problem is LOTS of folks go then between the school breaks and the Daytona 500 so cars in short supply and the prices go up!!!

I rented a car one time over that week and it was VERY EXPENSIVE! (I was on business and had to get our corporate guy to get me a refund since Avis refused to honor the corporate rate!)
Also, if you are staying on property could you just use ME??

boy, this is upsetting, i was so excited to fly my family of 4 down from ny
for only 707.00. i was hoping to do everything on a budget. I am just wondering, if anyone knows if american express has any promotions. I could also look into priceline as well i guess.

Wow, that's great airfare! If it weren't for my frequent flyer miles it would have cost over $1600 for my family of four to fly down!

well to make it work we are leaving on an evening flight out of islip long island on tuesday the day after presidents day, the kids will miss school the following monday and we will fly 1st thing in the am on tuesday and drop the kids back off to school!!

boy i have to say after reading everyones posts i was getting kind of sad. I know that since we booked late we were in some trouble but i was in shock on how high the rates were even with codes.

I then did a google search on codes and an old web site that i used to look at for pre-cruise travel came up, so i played around with tons of codes and then i plugged one in for budget rental service and then came a mini van for $225.00 before taxes . Now probably most of you are saying " that's not really a good rate, however i was seeing rates close to $500.00
before taxes!! so i am doing the happy dance here !! oh and btw the code comes from travelocity and the code is X474200.

Of course i booked it and will probably keep checking on other codes "IF" they come available, but at this point i doubt it !!

I don't think that's a bad rate for a mini van during that week. I've used Budget last year and had good luck with them. Try joining their free fastbreak program-- you can bypass the lines. Have fun!

We are going 2/14-17 and got Alamo with a compact for close to $100. I saw rates crazy, and they were the cheapest. I tried Priceline, and nobody would take the $22 a day.
Although, that Is another option for you. If you know how much you really want to spend, try priceline. If somebody takes it, you are set, if not, nothing lost.
Alamo had the cheapest rates when I checked.
I called, (because I usually get compact for $13 a day, and the lady told me I should try back after the first of the year?) Not sure if she was telling me right? I'll try, until then I just reserved what we had so we'd get a car.
Race week Is the week of 2/13-19....So this will be a busy time.

If you're using Budget try U072405. It came out cheaper than X474200 for my upcoming rental.

Wow, your code U072405 came up over $300 more than X474200. I guess the rates can really vary depending on where, when, and what you rent. I am looking at Honolulu over the 4th of July for a minivan.
