Rent a car from airport to Port?

From what I've researched, it seems to be cheaper to rent a mini van (there are 6 of us) at the airport and check it in at the Port before the cruise, than taking either the Disney transfers or a town car service. Has anyone had this experience? THANKS! :)

That's what we did last August, we also had 6 people in our group. We rented a mini-van from Avis at the airport then drove over to the Radisson the night before our cruise. In the morning, I took the car back to Avis and had a friend drive me back to the Radisson. My family then took the Radisson shuttle to the port.

After the cruise, we took the Avis shuttle to their rental office, picked up another mini-van, drove up to Titusville for an early lunch, then drove to MCO airport and dropped the rental car off.

We usually use Happy Limo, but we tried out Budget to see how the rental car experience would go. I am too lazy to really like driving, but it went more smoothly than I expected. We got our best rate via the one-way rental link on Hotwire. The Budget line was not bad, and the shuttle service was very good. They also upgraded us from an economy car to a Ford Taurus.

On Hotwire, I think the total rental cost is around $32 to $35 each leg. Hubby gave the driver a couple of bucks each way too. But to the cost you have to add the tolls and the additional time it takes for the shuttle...not a huge amount of time, but worth weighing in when you're comparing with a towncar.

Oops, forgot to mention that that's for an economy car, as there are only two of us.

We just rented a car from Budget for our July 3rd cruise and were able to save a little using the AARP discount. It took about $10 off. Nancy

We were able to rent a car on priceline when we went on the 4-day cruise in May. I don't remember exactly what we bid, but the total for the rental plus the $40 it cost to park at the port was less than what it was going to cost to make 2 one-way rentals. Plus, we didn't have to deal with getting to and from the car rental place at the port. Priceline gave us Hertz, which is an off-airport location. We have always rented from Avis before, which is in the airport and we found that Hertz was a much better experience.
